The rear locker on my 19 rubicon is making horrible clunking noises which makes me think I need to replace it. As far as I know you can get an ARB or Eaton e locker with 35 splines. Has anyone done this? If so what shafts did you use?

You've come to a decision point. If you haven't read Ted's thread on the D44, it's worth your time. My story of the failures of the rear Dana 44 and why I think it has been unreliable for me. | Jeep Wrangler Forums (JL / JLU) -- Rubicon, 4xe, 392, Sahara, Sport - JLwranglerforums.com

If you want one for one replacement, Jeep does not sell the differential. However, Dana Spicer sells the differential as P/N 10039946, which I have sitting right in front of me. If you pull your cover, rotate the diff around until you find the p/n. It should have a few different numbers, but 10039946 should be on there. I bought from these guys. If I were to do this again, I'd plan on a rear D60 as a minimum, when going to 37" tires. For the front, I'd go with a D44 or D60 with free spin/locking hubs, no FAD. All 8 lug system. As it is, I'm so heavily invested in the OE axles that I'm probably going to run them until they break or I get rid of the jeep.

There is also the OX locker system.

For 35 spline axles, RCV makes them. Jeep Wrangler JL & JLU Axle Sets - Jeep - Axle Sets (rcvperformance.com)

Also Northridge 4x4 sells Yukon alxes in 35 spline for the D44 Advantek 220. Not sure if these are made to order for Northridge or a catalog Yukon item. Yukon D44 Rear Chromoly Axle Shaft - Jeep Rubicon 2018-2024 | YAWD44JL-35-33.1|Northridge4x4

I would sure think about D 60s and Dana has just come out with D 60 in 5 lug made for Jeeps.

OX is a great locker, HOWEVER, its made by a small company and they are not in stock at Wal mart. I had 2 wheeling buddies bought into the OX lockers. Both of them had failures at almost the same time on a long trip-wheeling adventure. I forgot what part failed, it was minor and they kept moving as I remember but barely...But not a problem, right? WRONG. OX was shut down, it was either for vacation or SEMA show or the OFFROAD Expo. That is all legit they are not a big company. NOTHING wrong with OX components they are some of the best. Buf if something goes wrong parts are not found at AUTO ZONE...

IF you wheel hard 7++ trails, and wheel OFTEN like all the time and you have a failure, what do you do?

War story: Moab Pritchett Canyon. 10 Jeeps signed up for my run and showed and in the middle of it one guy snaps a u joint. NO ONE had a replacement, I asked and opps NO we don. Will I did and I slid under his Jeep and replaced it, took me about 15 min or so. I had a 1320 because I ran 1320s at the pinion on my Dyantracs. 1320 on a DYNATRAC Pro ROck 60s, yep notbig ass ujoints for me.
WHY?
Its called POFA (Point of Failure Analysis). Ujoints and the mitigate the problem is to install a FUSE, just like you have for electrical stuff. Take away, Have parts you can easily source, and always have a fuse in your driveline.

Switching to D60’s isn’t really a good option for me since I have invested in RCV shafts in the front. I don’t wheel the Jeep all that hard, mostly 6 rated trails with an occasional 7. I think the Jeep was rode a little hard by the previous owner and I would just like to fix my locker issue. Maybe an ARB I’ve had good luck with them on previous Jeeps

What did you end up doing to fix your issue?

I went with an ARB 35 spline with Dutchman shafts. I also got the harness from Z automotive to be able to use the stock locker switch. Just tested it in Moab and works great

So is this Dana Spicer a direct replacement and plug and play for the Rubicon D44 internals? For $677 that makes me feel so much better, knowing that there is a replacement with e-locker.

It is the identical part for the Rubicon. As you can see, it's only the mechanical part of the differential. It is stuffed with the spider gears and requires the electrical actuator coil, a small spacer. If your electrical parts are good, just swap them over.

On the other hand, If the coil is bad, theres a work around for that I started a thread on since that part isn't available either. It's buried in this forum somewhere. Evidently not worthy of pinning it by the pinning gods.

It's simply unbelievable that no ones sells a compatible, plug and play Rubicon e-locker.

When you do this, do you have to change your axle housing?
