2022 Jeep Rubicon JLU. At 17,000 miles get the Rear-Axle Locker caution light on dash, the locker switch is flashing yellow, the off-road page on console shows rear axle locked. I jacked up the Jeep and checked it was not locked, checked manual and latter found this group.
When I got the Heep into the dealership a few days latter, the light had gone off by itself one morning and dealership could not pull a code. The girl fixed herself, but I expect it would come back. Over the next year, had the light come on once or twice, but it was out by next morning. It’s a Heep after all!
Two weeks ago, now at 37,000 miles the same problem came back. Look at the video. I’m writing this so it may help you
to know what to expect. It won’t be a quick fix, mine took 10 days to fix.
Brought the Jeep into the dealership and this time the light stayed on a they pulled the code of DTCM.
C-1451-11 Rear-Differential Position Sensor Circuit Short to Ground.
Had to wait three days for a “qualified” technician to look at it, it was over the 4th of July weekend. I didn’t care, because I argued a loaner vehicle from the dealership. It is the same one I custom ordered my JLU from and bought the Platinum Warranty Package, I’m glad I did. Besides…I enjoyed blowing the doors of that Challenger they gave me as a loaner!
Once parts were ordered, it took three days to receive them:
68544629AA $318 Axle Sensor Kit
68400411AA $23
Plus lubricants for rear axle, because the sensor is inside the rear axle gear case.
Once the parts were received, it took less than a day to install and check, the Jeep was ready that afternoon. I got a look at the sensor (they wouldn’t let me keep it) and it was full of oil.
This is a known issue by Jeep, there is a bad batch of sensors that went into the axles in 21 and 22. They used to replace the whole axle, now there a these kits, but they need to be ordered from factory. There are 5 sensors in a kit, they only replaced the one, guess they kept the other. If I had paid for it, I’d have wanted them all, as it is, I was happy to get my girl back. Topless she is better than a Challenger any day!
The more you know, the less the dealership can try to snow you. You can look up the parts and diagrams on Mopar website, call the parts department ahead of time. Insist on a loaner, this will not be a quick fix, and it’s under warranty!
