Adding front locker to Willys?

It sounds like it would be great for driving in the snow. I was just wondering if the dynamics of having traction in the front and an open diff in the back (effectively MORE traction up front than in the back) would somehow make for a problematic driving experience?

Sounds like it doesn't though.
I believe the difference is that the TrueTrac is that it still allows the two front wheels to spin at different speeds, whereas with a true locked differential the two wheels must spin at the same speed (and when turning, the outside wheel needs to travel a greater distance in the same amount of time).

Yes. So unless you're doing hard core rock crawling/four wheeling, TrueTracs are your best bet. A fully locked diff can get squirrely on the road.

I've got a Deroit soft locker in the rear of my TJ. You can feel it when it disengages and re-engages. I call it the Detroit Shimmy.
