I am building a cargo carrier for the back of my 2024 4xe. I want to leave the factory camera as is, and add an aftermarket camera that I can simply plug into the factory camera connector in the tailgate when I attach my cargo carrier.
  • I have the appropriate connector that allows me to plug the RCA cable from a camera into the FAKRA connector in the tailgate.
  • I have an aftermarket camera that will sit on the license plate bracket of my carrier.
  • When I plug an aftermarket camera in, the screen displays solid blue instead of the camera view.
Has anyone been able to add a cheap camera like this to their Jeep?

The OEM camera is a digital signal and simply plugging in an RCA version will not work. If you really want to do that, you've got a few options depending on which radio you have installed. If you've got the 8.4, you could use the Tazer front camera option (though you would have to fab up your own bracket). If you have the smaller radio screen you might not have that option, but you could install a standalone monitor or a rearview mirror that has a video input. You could look into a replacement radio, but that might cause additional problems...

Thank you. That explains it.

I will probably just get a second OEM camera.

That's an option I hadn't thought of, but that should work well also.

The infrastructure is in place for the JT's cargo camera. I wonder if you could tap into that somehow.
I can. Just need a special rca to 2 pin cable and have to remove the head unit.

I got a cheap wifi backup camera that I'm going to use for my upcoming trip. Going to use an old fire tablet as the monitor.
