A shop just installed Teraflex Delta brakes. They got the brakes on but the pedal is a little spongy and I want to try to bleed them myself rather than take it back. If I can't figure it out then I'll take it back in.

I know I need to bleed the ABS system so I ordered the Bluetooth module and SGW plug cable adapter. They will be here Saturday. My question is does the JScan walk you through this procedure? I can't seem to find a lot of info on this. I'm not the best at searching though. If it doesn't walk you through it then what is the procedure? I know I have to remove my taser, bleed the brakes, do the ABS bleed, and then bleed the brakes again but I'm not sure on the ABS bleed part. Any help would be appreciated.

I played with the demo on the JScan but it didn't show anything about bleeding the ABS system.

Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't pumping the brakes and opening the bleeder screw work just like the old days?

From what I've read and heard air bubbles still get trapped in the ABS system. The scan tool "pumps" the ABS module getting the bubbles to release and then you bleed it like normal to get rid of them.

Yes, it does walk you through the procedure. Pretty intuitive. I recommend doing it twice.

Thanks, that's reassuring. That's a good idea to run it twice while you're already crawling around on the floor.

I’d assume you were planning to have a helper, but you definitely need one for the ABS bleed.

i had my wife sit in the Jeep with the phone and pressing the brake pedal as required, and then just telling me what the next step/where to go was.

That was my plan as well. My wife has gotten pretty good at holding the brake down while bleeding brakes.

Here is post on another forum that gives a pretty decent run down of the JSCAN procedure. Procedure would be the same on any Wrangler.
Thanks! That goes into a lot of detail.

I just bought all the things to do this myself. Not sure if you already got the extension cable but if you didn't, I strongly recommend you do.
I have the extension cable but thanks for thinking of it!

I'm not very good at write ups but I'll get back on here and let you know how it went down. I don't get to do it until Saturday.

Unless the shop allowed the master cylinder reservoir to go empty there's not much chance air got into the ABS unit. Even then the spools in the module seal up pretty well. If the ABS is working properly there's likely no air in the system. Teraflex uses larger pistons in the calipers and the stock master cylinder has to be travel further in the stroke to move them.

I'd do a manual bleed with either pressure (Motive Power pressure bleeder) or vacuum and see if you get any air out of the system. The rears can be particularly fussy to get clear of all air bubbles as the fluid flows very slowly. The old two person pump & squirt method is valid but it can damage the seals in the master cylinder. (Flame suit on....)
