I just wanted to thank you all here for the info I gathered when I bought my wagoneer (yah yah I know. I'm taking chance here but after 17 years of tahoes and chevy giving me only 500 off MSRP I couldn't eat the cost of the truck compared to the discounts I got on the wagoneer) regarding the extended warranty and not needing to buy it from the dealer.

Long story short dealer wanted 8 grand for the max care plan. I thought it seemed kinda high. So I jumped on here and saw the thread re: the out of my state dealer who sells them for pretty much cost or close to it. Called them. Super nice. Ended up getting it for like under 3000 grand. Oh before I told the dealer what I could get it for cause my wife was telling me "just don't say anything and we will get it from who you found. let it go." they said "hey we can give it to you for 6300 if you buy it today". . . then I got the look I could say something cause I was jumping out of my skin not saying anything. their mouths dropped. didn't believe me. . . bla bla bla. . .

it ended up that they were "that isn't even right what other dealers do." I signed and said "really what other dealers do. you all here are trying to make thousands and thousands in profit off of a piece of paper that might not even ever get used where as this dealer who I didn't even buy anything from is willing to help me out and others. but they are the bad guy."

but again thanks. sorry that short story ended up long form.

again thanks so much!

I was a GM SUV guy but I too can no longer justify the cost of those things so I bought a Silverado instead.

Great call on getting the warranty though, keep it FCA's problem and not yours.

What dealer is only doing $500 off Tahoes? We are doing $8,000-$10,000K off ours, and $10k off on our Wagoneer's.

Yeah, now. And for comparison - what kind of discounts are you offering on Silverados?

When I was shopping, it was a chore just to find a dealer willing to sell a Tahoe at MSRP, while I could get $3k off a Silverado just by showing up. Things have changed a bit since Spring 2023.

And to add yes 2 months ago I could get 10 off a Silverado and low interest but nothing on Tahoes. Our dealers only have 1-2 on the lots too. They all said they can’t order them whenever they wanted to.

again the is was 2 months ago.

24 Silverado's are $10k off. 24 Sierra's are $10k-$15K off.

It always interests me what dealers are doing on discounts. Around here nobody can beat our pricing on GM and CDJR. Then I see somewhere else that is beating us and others that barely discount at all.

There is a reason for this. Most of the manufacturers have a program for their dealers where the manufacturer re-insures the warranty with an off-shore insurance company owned by the owner of the dealership. Those closely-held insurance companies get special tax benefits (no tax on gains inside the company), so it is a way for the dealers to make a lot of money, and then pay less tax on the investment gains inside their own insurance company.

There is NOTHING I trust less then a car salesman. They do not give a damn about the customer, all they care about is milking as much money as possible out of you. There can be some honest salespeople/dealerships, but in general they are the lowest form of life in my opinion...

Just buy out of state, people. It’s easy. So what if you have a long drive to do so? I haven’t bought from a local dealer in a decade.
That's somewhat bizarre advice. What if the best deals are in the state you're in?

I'd suggest that realtors give car salespeople proper competition in that regard.

I concur. They hated dealing with me. I want what I want and why should they have more money in their pocket than me. I’ll meet you half way don’t get me wrong but I’m not bending over.
