Ehh, with the price of Freon these days, and given you will lose a little bit just from checking, I’d check data and obvious circuits first. If access to a scanner is available, you can check refrigerant pressure directly without loss of expensive 1234yf.
If you have good fittings, the loss is not measureable. Still, the point is to check the pressures, before messing around chasing red herrings. For my old JL, I just use 134. Cheap and works the same. No freon police in my neighborhood anyway.

I use 134A in my JL too. I have been using it for well over a year.
2 for me. Friend too. Mine can dip into the high 30s. I believe Canadian JLs came with 134

I want to add onto this - The factory sensor (and hell, even gauges) can and will read 70-120 PSI on the system, the compressor clutch will engage, but no cool air because the system is actually completely empty. The general telltale is pressure isn't increasing as you'd expect with the compressor engaged.

No idea what it's compressing, air/oil or something I guess, but I've seen this dozens upon dozens of times now.

I just wanted to mention it. Generally if I see the compressor engaging, normal resting/ambient pressure on the scan tool, but evaporator temperature is hot, it's actually empty more often than not.

Uggggh…has been hell getting an A/C system set….first set came in for 123a only (keeping stock refrigerant) and had to return. 2nd correct set came in BUT missing the quick disconnect for one of the port side and had to return, 3rd and different brand was for correct refrigerant but lacked the correct quick disconnects for our system and returning and have the original 2nd one re-ordered

JLs come with R134a in Canada, I believe. There are no part number differences in the system for R134a, except for the two hoses that have the fittings on them to prevent interchanging the type of refrigerant, and a sticker on the radiator cover. I was going to buy the two hoses and sticker to make the system identity and functional couplings R134a, but it was $400 worth of hoses. So, I just bought some adapter fittings for my R134a gauge set to fit the R1234yf fittings. $50+ a can (requires 2 cans) to fill the system is ridiculous. I have a large stash of R134.
