Ehh, with the price of Freon these days, and given you will lose a little bit just from checking, I’d check data and obvious circuits first. If access to a scanner is available, you can check refrigerant pressure directly without loss of expensive 1234yf.
If you have good fittings, the loss is not measureable. Still, the point is to check the pressures, before messing around chasing red herrings. For my old JL, I just use 134. Cheap and works the same. No freon police in my neighborhood anyway.
