Why can’t the steel bumper clear a 35” tire, yet the plastic bumper can?
Has anyone successfully installed a 35” tire on the stock carrier with steel bumper?

The Plastic bumper does not clear the tire actually rest on it, you have to lift the door to get the tire over the lip/step to rest on the bumper...

Is there any size difference from the steel bumper vs plastic bumper? I’m referring to the opening on the bumper for the tire?

My 315 -70-17 BF good rich KO 2 clears the steel bumper on my Rubicon. It barely touches when the tail gate is closed. Right now I have stock up Graded Rubicon wheels.

Where are you reading that you can't fit a 35" tire on the stock carrier with the steel rear bumper? Several people in this thread have done so without issue.

I tried installing my 35” toyo MT on stock 17” wheel. And the tire kept hitting the bumper.
Maybe it requires a bit for effort to push the tire into the bumper opening.
I’m currently using a 2” wheel spacer on the stock carrier.

Can anyone confirm that a 35” tire fits the stock carrier with steel bumper/stock wheels. Maybe I can give it another try.
Thanks.

Did you click the link and read the thread? All the confirmation you need is there, including pictures.

Edit - two other users in this thread confirm it as well.

I don't know what your trouble is !!!!

If you have to "PUSH" to get the spare/tailgate closed--you're in GREAT SHAPE !

The bumper will provide vertical/gravity cancellation and take a lotta stress off of the tailgate hinges--

I've done it for years, but get rid of the "SPACER" ON THE SPARE MOUNT !

Good luck

Thanks. Before taking delivery of the Jeep, I had the dealership install a full set of toyo MT 35” tires on the stock 17’s
The service advisor called me and said they could not get the 35 to clear the bumper, he said the only way to get it to clear would be with a 2” spacer.

No, that's not the only way and that just puts more load/stress on the tailgate--

If they lower the spare air pressure to 25 psi--it should fit-

Good lucK

Update: A 35” tire on stock wheel, will indeed clear the steel rear bumper on a JL Rubicon. Requires a little tug to get the tire to slide into the bumper opening.
Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated

If you will spray some silicone spray on the bottom of the tire then it will slide on and you will not even know that it touches the bumper. At least it works for my steel bumper with BF good rich 315 70-17 K O2 tires.

Thanks for the tip. Currently it has a bit of resistance when closing the gate, I’m sure the silicon will smooth it out.

Is the tire carrier the same on the Rubicon and the sport? I just put the metal rear Rubicon bumper on and I am running the Rubicon tires and wheels and I can't close the tailgate with the tire installed. I am going to lower the air pressure to see if that helps.
