I think the last straight 8 was a Cadillac back in the 1920s maybe the 30s. Definitely pre WWII.
Buick, Pontiac and Packard all had Straight 8’s in the 50’s.

Don't tell old Saab owners that or even Porsche Motorsport and their 919.
Ford made SAAB’s V4. Very popular engine in Europe in the 60’s and 70’s. Odd sounding beast.

I had a 2019 4-door with the 4cyl for 3 years and no problems over about 27k miles during the lease period.

Recently ordered a 2025 2-door Sport and, wanting to keep the price as low as possible, went with the 6cyl & manual transmission. Delivery estimated in about a week.

The 4cyl would’ve been torquier/peppier and a little more fuel efficient, but would’ve been $2500 more. And with an auto, I’d have wanted the Cold Weather package (not worth the $1900 on a manual since it doesn’t include Remote Start there) - but Cold Weather isn’t available on Sport, so then it would’ve been another $3000 to upgrade to Sport S to get cold weather package (net increase of $2400, since the S includes tinted windows, which I had to add to Sport for $600. Though the S does have a nicer steering wheel lol.)

So for me, a $6,800 rabbit hole for the 4cyl wasn’t worth it, even if the gearing and clutch that come with the JL’s 6cyl manual ain’t the greatest. But the 6cyl is smooth and I won’t feel the need to put higher than 87 octane like I would the 4cyl.

I just bought a 25 sport 2 door manual a few weeks ago. It’s been a fun little get around so far. Exactly what jeeps are meant to be! All mine has is the tinted rear plastic “glass” and the floor liner package. A few Amazon cargo organizers might be in my future.

Interesting- worked last night-
Known for making the largest Diesel engine in the world (14 cylinders, 109,000 horsepower, 110,450 cubic inches), Wartsila makes a version of the RTA96-C with half the cylinders, making it an inline 7. To further solidify the seven cylinder lineup they also make the 46F and X82 inline 7 marine engines, which are smaller higher revving (relatively speaking) models. However before you start thinking that the inline seven cylinder is only a ship engine or a crazy one-of motorcycle engine there is a production inline seven cylinder engine for land use the ADCOHD 98 (formerly known as the SISU) Designed for agricultural use , the 598 cu in I-7 engine makes about 470 HP at 2100 RPM, and 1,327 lb Ft of torque at 1500 RPM. These are only three of the eight engines covered in the video.

or as I should have said- search straight 7 cylinder engine and it was the third or fourth article. 🙄

I hear that the Cherry Bomb mufflers are being made again. There is an old school V8 sound… :CWL:

Only uncapped sounded better 😃

until I got tired of being a cop magnet and replaced them with turbo mufflers. The first time I stood on it the end caps blew off both of them. I was a mile behind you and heard them blow.
As the CHP wrote the ticket

Nothing sounds better, short of uncapped. But they are “Loud” as well as “Good”. When I pulled up to work a new guy on the heavily insulated refrigerated dock with blasting fans the door opened and his head poked out to see where the rumbling came from. :CWL: He had a nice 340 Duster, we became good friends.

340’s were giant killers. My buddy had a 68 Swinger, 340, 3.55’s with a 4 speed, fast little car.
