I work in the auto industry and have access to 3rd-party future production data and they are not showing an I6 Wrangler. They’ve been wrong/late before, and Stellantis is the most fluid in dealing with electrification, V8 reduction, etc

I'd pull the trigger on the 392.

While we went 18 months and then went with another Jeep, I don't see us doing that again. If we could afford the fuel we'd be looking at the V8, and especially with how they'll be a museum piece in months.

If you find that the Hurricane I6 or Magneto is what you want, you'll get top dollar for your 392.

It’ll be interesting to see how the resale values on the 392 Wranglers are effected if the new inline 6 outperforms it in power and fuel economy.
As an example, the Challenger Hellcats used car value dropped by about $15k - $20k up here as soon as the Demon was introduced.

I'm considering trading in my fairly built 2019 JLUR for a new Wrangler w more power and an AT (lifelong MT guy, but tired of the MT/clutch in my JL). I'm not in a rush...although...

...it looks like the window for the 392 is shrinking. However, the 500hp out of the Hurricane is a fine replacement for me. Suspect a CAI/TBE w a tune and you'd have an easy 600hp. I'm not looking to run 1/4-mile times, but w a lot of gear/weight in my MT there isn't enough power to hold cruise at 70mph on a slight incline. That's w 4.88.

I read an article last week that said the Hurricane was too large for the JL and they were looking at a smaller, single turbo Tornado motor. I can't find that article now (it was written in May).

So - get a 392 while I can or wait for Hurricane (Tornado)?
You reference "gear/weight" so I'd go with displacement/V8 every time over something smaller displacement and turbocharged. Diesels excluded.

Be patient- Hellcats out perform 70-71 Hemi Cuda’s (Chargers, etc) priced one? It’s just a matter of time.

? $200- those are rare! My 1 of 500 (eng ser.#HP360) GTX, 1 of 200 Pennant Blue 54 Corvette, both into 6 figures, 55 Nomad, 66 L79 Nova SS , 57 Big Window Chevy PU have become collectible. But we still have Dad’s 3A. ? Oh yeah, 69 Bronco ( built 302, auto, etc) must have been an old age brain fart to forget it.

Best offer I've gotten was $2800. Ive seen them from 2k to 10k but none with as low a milage as mine. Yea, one of my better investments.
Back in the day was reading 89 were the lowest production number, they were only out a month. But now on the net looks like 91s were the lowest number. Still not many.

The 4xe is almost as powerful as the 392. I towed my '83CJ over 500 miles with it this past weekend and it had no problems whatsoever. Don't let the politics affect your decision on which Jeep to purchase. I bought mine for all the wrong reasons and glad I did. Torque not trees.

Torque down low is what you need to cruise the highway. A heavy vehicle with large heavy tires need lots of low end torque (not 3000-5000 rpm torque)
How’s the gas engines torque at 1600-1900 rpm’s?

Personally I’d never buy a first year production engine (or vehicle). Let others do the beta testing-I’d rather have a proven product. The Hurricane should be great, but not an early production one…
