Are the following statements true regarding the current model Jeep:

- I can detatch the aux cable without doing any other modifications and still drive the jeep like normal, albeit with possible error lights on the dash. the only thing i lose is ESS.

- if the uconnect totally fails or is hacked it can potentially disable the ability to drive the jeep

- The jeep wave counts if its the middle finger pointed at a pinto or a lada

That may depend on the model; i.e., the degree, or not, of e-integration with the vehicle itself.

E.g., the Uconnect3 in my JLU can't be hacked, since it has no over-the-air functionality. My phone is paired to it via the Bluetooth feature, but that does nothing more than allow me to stream music and make or receive phone calls.

That head unit had just a single hiccup in 5+ years, coincidentally occurring earlier this week. During that brief interval when it was non-responsive, the time of day pivoted to the default 12:00 on my center TFT screen. There wasn't any other effect on the vehicle's functioning, nor would I expect there to be any. After the U3 came back to life, I reset the time and that was that. My phone was still paired.

If you mean the aux BATTERY cable then the answer for 2019 and later Jeeps is true. There are many very long discussions on this forum regarding the aux battery.

what does it do besides ESS?
Besides ESS, it gives me a reason to dump more money into this vehicle to get the Genesis Off-road Dual Battery solution and do away with it. How amazing!

I was under the impression that disconnecting the aux didn't disable ESS. Maybe it does as a side effect of the errors?

You may be correct. My ESS has never worked for reasons unknown to me, disconnecting the battery didn't change anything.

I bought my a 2018 in 2021 after about 6 months I managed to replace the aux battery 3 times (if I remember correctly) finally I just let it die and didn't replace it. I lost ESS and had a service ESS light (lightning bolt icon). Other then that I had no issues. I believe you can also unplug one of the hood sensors which are at the front driver side of the engine bay, I can't remember which one it is but it aslo disables ESS, but still pops up with the same warning light if you just want to disable ESS. I don't know if thats what your looking for but hope it helps.
As for your second question I think it depends on a lot of things so not really an easy answer. But I suspect its more effort then its worth for someone to hack the UConnect system. This video by Way a life is interesting his dash freaked out and he was still able to drive so depending on what broke you should be fine.
Edit: heres the video Way a life video

False: on our 2018 the Auto Start Stop was not working, and the dash had the light on for years. Then the main battery died, replaced the main, disconnected the aux and taped up the cable, pulled fuse 42 and viola. Light on the dash went off and now start stop works. The ole ball in chain is so annoyed with it working now.

As for the other 2, I could not say.

I just thought of this also after realizing your issue with the 2018 and mine, it may depend on the year, I know jeep made a few electrical/software changes to the '19s because of the issues with the '18s. Could be false but may be a something. Thats cool you found a fix for yours I could never get my light to go away.

The ironic thing is that we didn't want it fixed. When we had the motor replaced we told the dealer not to worry about the light and we were fine that it wasn't working. Then the batteries died. I didn't care for the aux and didn't want to pull the fender liners to replace so I just disconnected it and it fixed it the start/stop 🤷‍♂️.

The system and behavior is somewhat complicated, there are numerous very long threads on this forum discussing it. Off the top of my head and I might miss some of the fine points, for 2019 and later: You can search on youtube and find many ways to disable ESS if that is what you want to do, but you will have the warning light on the dash. You can disconnect the small battery and that keeps it from affecting the big battery but if nothing else changes I think ESS still works, and you run the risk of running down the battery at a long traffic light and the engine won't restart. If you otherwise disable ESS and disconnect the battery then everything will work great except you will still have the warning light. I don't know what the fuse does, I never pulled a fuse on mine. If you have a 2018 with its original programming you have to add a jumper wire inside the fuse block otherwise it won't start with the small battery disconnected. If your 2018 has had its computer reflashed with newer software then this won't be a problem and it will work just like 2019 and newer.

My 2018 has had the computer flashed to newer software, the ESS has not worked since I have owned it, I have run it for almost 5 years with the small battery disconnected with no problems, I would like to remove the small battery completely but it isn't worth the trouble to me.
