The system and behavior is somewhat complicated, there are numerous very long threads on this forum discussing it. Off the top of my head and I might miss some of the fine points, for 2019 and later: You can search on youtube and find many ways to disable ESS if that is what you want to do, but you will have the warning light on the dash. You can disconnect the small battery and that keeps it from affecting the big battery but if nothing else changes I think ESS still works, and you run the risk of running down the battery at a long traffic light and the engine won't restart. If you otherwise disable ESS and disconnect the battery then everything will work great except you will still have the warning light. I don't know what the fuse does, I never pulled a fuse on mine. If you have a 2018 with its original programming you have to add a jumper wire inside the fuse block otherwise it won't start with the small battery disconnected. If your 2018 has had its computer reflashed with newer software then this won't be a problem and it will work just like 2019 and newer.

My 2018 has had the computer flashed to newer software, the ESS has not worked since I have owned it, I have run it for almost 5 years with the small battery disconnected with no problems, I would like to remove the small battery completely but it isn't worth the trouble to me.
The electronics and software is so complex and weird that I don't think the people who program them even fully understand how or why they work. 😂

As for the software, I have no idea on how to know what version it has or if anything was updated with the new motor. But I am not too worried about the ASS system working in the wife's Jeep. She can push a button just like I do. 👍.

The ASS feature It's just annoying enough for me to bitch about it but not annoying enough for me to do anything about it, other than push the button on the dash.

Are the following statements true regarding the current model Jeep:

- I can detatch the aux cable without doing any other modifications and still drive the jeep like normal, albeit with possible error lights on the dash. the only thing i lose is ESS.
False
- if the uconnect totally fails or is hacked it can potentially disable the ability to drive the jeep
False
- The jeep wave counts if its the middle finger pointed at a pinto or a lada
False... But also WTF? How many Pintos or Ladas do you even see on the road?

It's basically a question of "2018 original software" or "other", "other" meaning a 2019 or later vehicle, or a 2018 that has been flashed with software updates (as mine has). If a person is wanting to disconnect the small battery there is a test you can do. You disconnect the small battery in the 2018 and see if the car will start, that's the test. I think you have to push the button twice. If it won't start then you need to add a jumper wire inside the fuse block.

The OP is Canoodian. Ladas in particular have a following in the Great White North.

I've got the same chance of waving to a fellow Ural owner.
I didn't realize, but that kinda makes sense.

When I read at first, I thought it might be throwing some shade at the Jeep Wave (3) "maintenance" freebies, given the Pinto reference 😆
