Ok surprise surprise. I have broken the drivers side engine mount. Its still all there, its just leaking black fluid and I can feel the driveline shift when I engage gears or go to drive off.

So.. I can get a replacement and I can see the top 3 bolts for the mount. I changed some for my MORE engine skid, so I know I can get to them..
But the question is... The single bolt that actually connects the engine to the mount looks ok to get to. BUT do I need to do anything fancy to take the mount out?

The 3 body/frame bolts, then the one engine mount nut need to come off right!? But... Its just that I cant see how I can lift the mount high enough as there is also a dowel/stud that is located in the mount. Or will the mount twist enough to remove? Do I have to jack the engine up on that side a few inches etc?

Any pointers or tips for removal would be appreciated. My AllData online manual is wrong. It has an older mount shown which is useless, even though I bought the right manual.. Grrr.

Did you get this resolved? I have fluid leaking all over the driver's side frame rail and I don't think it is power steering, and does not smell like diesel (have a 3.0 diesel). It looks like it is coming from the driver's side engine mount but I do not have clunking yet.

For the alldata info. You have to unbolt the trans crossmember and unbolt the radiator hose from the body at the front and jack the engine up to get the mount out.

I bought a replacement... But now my passenger side is also burst.

Going to see if there is a poly equivalent as replacing them every 2yrs seems painful.

I’m between it being the drivers side motor mount or the steering box. PSC going in next week so hopefully it’s the box.

If its black, it's the mount.
But the engine is firmly in place with both sides broken on mine.

I think it's for nvh, which is mental in an offroad vehicle. So I might not bother to swap them out.

“Broken” engine mounts on the 3.6 will last for years. I doubt the pictures above are from an engine mount, the fluid that leaks from them dries very quickly and leaves behind only stains.

Thanks for this thread. It confirms that my driver side mount has failed. The liquid looks like slippery black paint almost. What is NVH? Did you end up replacing yours, or just leave them? Thanks. I wheel mine hard as hell, so I lean towards replacement.

NVH is noise vibration harshness

If you wheel hard, let it ride until it actually goes bad. It’s a lot of work to replace just to pop the next one the next time you go off road.

Agreed. But I’m hearing noise from that side when the engine torque is increased. So it’s likely letting the engine twist more than it should. As evidenced by the clearance of my engine skid hanging bracket decreasing. I’d love it if there were an aftermarket option.
