What is normal oil pressure for these things? I see anywhere from 20 at warm idle to 85 when going up a hill or engine breaking down one. Don't see 85 often, but it has happened. Do these really vary that much? 85 seems way too high, even the more common 65 seems too high.

At idle mine is 20-21, I’ll check tomorrow on my drive to work and get back to you in the evening, 85 seems like a lot

Mine averages around 30-34 while I'm driving. That seems to not matter whether it's hot or cold in North Texas.

I believe gas engines average around 20. I know my wife's Subaru averages around 20 psi. I remember when I first got it my dad's thought that 30 was kind of low because Diesel typically do have much higher psi for the oil. This is my first diesel vehicle, so I don't really know too much in that range.

First thing in the morning mine is always 80-85psi for the first mile of driving or so then it drops. Usually ~30psi on freeway then 20psi at idle warmed up. To note, I previously had a low oil pressure issue so I spent a lot of time monitor the pressure ;)

Oh yeah below freezing almost every morning! I have learned if below 20F I put it in the garage so yeah 30ish degrees.

But it goes down once breaks 140 degrees water temp on off road pages or there about. Been a while since I paid attention.

It is because these engines have a dual stage oil pump. I would see the same kind of pressures in my old 2014 Rubicon with a 3.6L Pentastar since it had a dual stage oil pump as well.

I feel better knowing that I am not the only one. This is in fairly cold weather around 30 degrees and before fully warmed up.
