Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel, expect oil pressure around 20-25 PSI at idle and climbing to 30-40+ PSI when driving, though some report higher (50+ PSI) which can also be normal depending on oil temp and RPM, using a 5W-40 full synthetic oil meeting the MS-12991 spec. A gauge reading above '1' at idle and '3' or '4' while driving is typical for the dash gauge, but actual PSI readings are more precise.
Normal Operating Range (PSI):
  • At Idle (Warm): Around 20-25 PSI.
  • While Driving: 30-40 PSI or even higher (up to 60-70 PSI at high RPM/load).
Key Considerations:
  • Gauge vs. PSI: The dash gauge uses arbitrary numbers (like 1, 3, 4), so a digital PSI reading (via OBD-II scanner) is better.
  • Oil Type: Use a 5W-40 full synthetic meeting FCA MS-12991 for proper pressure.
  • Temperature: Pressure naturally increases with engine temperature and RPM.
  • Low Pressure Warning: If you see a low pressure warning, check your oil level immediately; low level or a bad sensor are common causes.
  • High Pressure: While less common, extremely high pressure (e.g., 70+ PSI constantly) can indicate an issue, but 50-60 PSI under load is usually fine.

The oil pressure that you see whether from an OBDII reader or the monitor that you can pull up in the Jeep is just a fake calculation. From what I've seen on the Ram's the calculation seems to be somewhat accurate up to 45psi or so. Beyond that it seems to fall way off vs actual.

I see you didn't mention normal engine oil operating temperatures.

Ps. While you're at it make sure you include temperatures from engines with the varying stages of delete tunes, because that does affect the normal safe operating temperature.
