In strictly comparing the functionality of the air events of our MY22 Rubicon XR and our MY24 Rubicon X I’m going with the round vents in the MY22. My experience is they move and direct the AC better. The ethics don’t bother me either way. The big screen is nice but the screen on my MY22 is fine.

What pisses me off is on the power seats not having memory buttons or having it connected to the key FOB. It makes the manual seats way more easier to adjust between drivers.
Woof. That would piss me off. It’s the first thing I bitch about when I grab the wrong key to our BMW and my wife’s seat settings kick in.

I have both the new screen and the previous screen, I like the old screen better myself. The new screen just doesn’t do anything beneficial to justify a larger screen. Some of the different displays could have been combined, like off-road pages but the layout is the same as the old screen just spread out more, lots of wasted space and poor execution of personalized setup. It wasn’t a dealbreaker obviously but it wasn’t something I had to have.

id like to know what the deal is with the dead space on the right side, did they design this from the dash out and just had to fill the space or is there some tech behind it or is it just added for aesthetics? I think the air flow is better out of the round vents also, maybe the ducting is smaller feeding the new center vents to make room for the tech to operate the screen.

And maybe I’m just getting old and know that the more technologically advanced things get the more issues it’s bound to have. I still have the old stock head unit in my JK with the CD player and a cord to plug in my phone. It serves the purpose and fills my needs.
I think the old JL screen was a better fit for the personality of the Jeep the new one is more Tesla style, but then again I’m perfectly happy with this. ⬇

Just this guy’s opinion.

I like the new dash. My previous Wrangled was a 2019. The wireless phone connect is definitely a plus too.

Is it worth losing the two extra air vents on the dashboard just to have a giant touchscreen in their place?
I hear people talking about "a real Jeep", but some of the new designs seem to be ruining the icon
The ‘icon’ began its ruin somewhere around the TJ era when they began altering the design to broaden (and make the fixes they complained about) the customer base. Improving the ride, AC, sound proofing/Dolby/Pioneer, etc. They began making standard features options and eliminated half doors.

Anyway, I don’t mind the larger screen except sometimes at night when I want it dark but still need a screen that doesn't still glow even in dark mode. I do mind how complicated Jeeps have gotten to modify when so many sensors and doodads throw up alarms if you wave a 10mm socket near them however.

I think they all look fine. If I were to buy a jeep right now I'd be interested in the 2024+ because of the side curtain airbags and their attempts to fix the issues with the IIHS crash testing. But I can also understand why some people wouldn't want those things. Eh whatever.

Ahhh the JK with the oldschool radio. It's a mood. I miss those. Not sure I'd wanna go back to them but the cool glow of the VFD displays was nice.

Is that a consequence of it simply being turned on, or is it due to the screen's higher placement exposing it to heat being transmitted through the windscreen glass? Just curious.

So many touchscreens now integrate HVAC controls, for example, that drivers are compelled to use them as a matter of course. While I bow to no one in my disdain for distracted driving, citing a driver for interacting at all with such screens shouldn't occur.

Sure, I'd like to see a return to less distracting analog-style radio and HVAC controls (buttons & knobs), but this is how it is and we just have to deal.
This ☝ - knobs and buttons you quickly get used to and maybe need only a quick glance to make often used adjustments. Staring at and navigating a screen for them is a distracting PITA. (fortunately Wrangler’s still have many)
My 21’s screen is sufficiently sized for function without being an oversized sideways I-phone creating an unbalanced dash and requiring poorly adjusting thin rectangular vents. Oh yeah- brilliant cloth dash for an open air vehicle and power seat without memory buttons. (a heated seat for her to leave on high is bad enough)

Now get off my lawn.

Personally I like the new screen plus with Apple CarPlay I pull up OnX maps on the screen and it is huge...no need to attach an iPad hanging from the dash any longer. I do agree that the round vents provide more airflow and would be better in the summer. But for eight months a year I want the movie sized screen.

I like the round vents. I can say I love the new infotainment systems. The round vents are not what makes a Jeep a Jeep, in my opinion. After almost a year I don't even notice the difference. I have had many Jeep Wranglers over the years

with horizontal vents.
I love the vents in the new 2024's that generates and gives all the heat and air conditioning for the days it ranges from below freezing to 122º. Much cleaner and neater looking dash with the information I need spread out instead of crammed into a little ascreen.

Compared to my 2008 JK I like the changes in the 2024 Rubicon X.

didn't know the a/c vents were below the touch screen. That's sounds like a good way to keep that movie theatre sized screen from getting too hot. Maybe soon they can squeeze a little microwave oven in the dashboard too. Gotta give the people what they want.
True it can keep it from getting hot, or it can make it worse. Over the winter we found out using the heat on the dash and floor...... it causes the infotainment system to lock up. Like its a HUGE pain in the ass!!!!! going along fine, then BAM nothing is responsive. It took awhile to get the AC working to bring the temp down. The radio was stuck at a certain level, and the knob doesn't work at that point. Then the wife calling, and yeah LOL it was not fun.
Now that I know, I'm just mindful of that being an issue.

My CJ-7 didn't have the "awesome" HVAC vents that my LJ has. Things change, they're still Jeeps, so far...
I miss pulling out the air vent control in our Scrambler and having the knob fall off in my hand. Replaced the knob with a small vise-grip and back in business.

I'm not a fan of any dash that has an infotainment system that looks like they had to cram too big a screen onto a small dash (the new JL looks that way to me) and really can't stand the ones that look like they forgot it all together and decided to tape an iPad to the dash as an after thought.
