Armorlite Floor Kit

Been on my list for a long time and was holding out, but was surprised with the floor kit as a gift this weekend! Still need to pick up the Cargo Wheelhouse Covers, but this stuff is seriously awesome.

Install in the cold is a nightmare. My Jeep lives outside, and it was probably 35-40F during my install. The panels themselves are super stiff, which is great for durability, but man does it make it hard to get them into position. Also, unless you have 1-2 other people helping you, it's probably best just to pull your seats.

I did 90% of the install myself and left the front seats in, but needed some help holding them out of the way at times.

Also, as this was a gift, I am not too worried about the warranty. Made a small incision in the passenger footwell to support my AEV Jack Base mount. Honestly, that was one of the most difficult parts, aside from lining things up. This material is insanely tough and super thick, so you'll need a fresh razor blade for sure.

Also, running the Jeep and blasting the heat on the floors does help make the liners a bit more pliable to fit into place, but it's still not easy any way you slice it.

My best advice is leave a ton of time for install. The factory plastics can be difficult, especially in the cold, and there are tons of things for the liners to get caught on when you're trying to fit them into place.

Probably took me about 30-45 minutes to completely remove all carpeting, seats, trim, and center console bolts, 4 hours to get the Armorlite in (every sticking point was solved after I turned the heat on), 15 minutes to get the seats lined back up, and another 10 minutes to snap all the trim back into place (not my first time).

Not sure I will ever pull this stuff out, and if I do, it might not be going back in, but I absolutely love it. The grip from the floors is 1000x better than the rubber on the OEM floor mats, whether your boots are wet or muddy, and the amount of road noise this blocks is amazing. I don't mind my Jeep being loud, but it's a really nice benefit.

Can't wait to get the Cargo Wheelhouse Covers!

Has this armorlite changed anything with the heat that comes off the floor board while driving it on long road trips? I’m looking into something to cut down on heat my drivers side gets extremely hot while driving for a couple hours …

Honestly, I never noticed the heat much before the install, but I definitely don't notice any now. I also just towed a ~2,000lb trailer (max towing capacity for two doors) this weekend from Detroit to NYC without any noticeable heat coming from the floors or transmission tunnel.

My cousin also works for the company that does the engineering and testing for the sound/heat reduction for Armorlite, and he has been raving about the stuff for the past 3 years or so telling me that I needed it.

Now that I have it, I can understand why! I'm used to Jeeps being hot and loud, and it has never bothered me much because, "it's a Jeep," but this is a huge improvement and definitely makes long highway drives a lot better.

The most noticeable source of heat and noise now comes from the top of the vehicle.

Awesome thank you so much for the detailed feedback I appreciate it. I have the top taken care of with hotheadliners now it’s just a matter of taking care of the floor. Since you have the inside scoop with your cousin do you know of any issues with water and moisture getting trapped between the armorlite and the actual flooring?

No issues that I am aware of!

It is still possible for water to get underneath, and in that case you would still want to remove the flooring as you would regular carpet to dry out properly, but I have hosed down my driver and passenger footwells to clean out road salt and dirt with no issues.

The backing is 100% polyester, so if a small amount of water does get under, it should not cause mold or mildew, and will likely evaporate. If you drive through a swamp or mud hole and completely submerge the floor pans, this is when I would pull everything out to clean and let dry in the sun.

Gotcha! I mean to be honest I just got into the jeep game always wanted one for years but finally just pulled the trigger now. I haven’t don’t any off-roading or have any off-roading planned any time soon I just want to kelp this new toy mint. And figured this is great addition. How’s the install very involved ? The only thing that scares me is pulling off the plastic panels which always seem to crack as some point in the removal 🤯

Well, welcome to the Jeep life! It's going to cost you more money than you could have possibly planned for! 😅

Half the fun (for me anyways) is doing the work yourself, but you can always have a shop do the install.

If it's hot outside, I wouldn't worry about cracking the plastic too much. It's very durable, and I've had a lot of my panels on and off quite a few times. The important thing is to make sure you're pulling on the panels in the correct direction to get the clips to release. It also helps to have some nylon trim panel removal tools to minimize the potential for marring. You're probably more likely to break a clip, than a panel itself.

The driver and passenger footwells are the most difficult part of the install by far, and many people completely remove the seats so they're out of the way. I left my seats in, but unbolted and would likely remove completely if I were to do it again. After you get the front pieces in, the rest is pretty easy.

Mine was actually a gift, so I am unsure of the cost, but everywhere I have seen has them listed for about the same price. You can also buy the kit in pieces, so make sure you're paying attention to which kit you're getting if you want or do not want all of the peices.

My build thread is a little out of date, but I've since purchased the cargo wheelhouse covers directly from Armorlite. You can also use the forum 10% off discount code "jlwranglerforums10" to save a bit when purchasing there.
