hi,

On my 2021 JLURD i am having some more fun with the entertainment system and audio system. This all started when FCA did an update then we did a Tazer update. This caused the radio to start "stuttering" (i.e. music plays, then cuts out for 1-5s, then comes back on - repeat, repeat, repeat) and the backup cameras to now have a green line down the right hand axis and across the bottom axis.

I took it back into the shop where they removed the Tazer and put a new one in, same issue. We downgraded the Tazer firmware, same issue. We traced all the wiring, nothing found. After about 2 weeks on this, they gave up and sent me back to the dealership to have them try to diagnose.

Dealership tried to update the radio and computer, which didn't work at first. They then talked to FCA and allegedly figured out some way to get it to work, but the problems remain after the update. They then replaced the radio, and updated to all current SW with the new radio - problem remains. Per FCA guidance, they then replaced the backup cams - problem remains. At that point, they too gave up and sent the rig back home with no other ideas of what to do next.

The entertainment system in the rig has been wonky since day 1 (https://www.wranglerforum.com/threads/2021-jlurd-wifi-problems-confirmed-by-att.2442543/) - but this really seems to be over the top and makes using the rig a bit more challenging as this issues also affects GPS, bluetooth phone usage, or pretty much anything that runs through the infotainment system.

Rig is still under 36k bumper to bumper, and i have the FCA platinum extended warranty - which this would be covered under.

I would welcome any opinions or thoughts on this obviously
TIA

I’d involve JeepCares. I doubt they will help, but it can’t hurt.

If you’re considering a Lemon Law solution, which you still have, you should familiarize yourself with the timelines. You don’t want to lose your window.

Thanks Whaler, i hadn't thought of that - will tag them in here and send a DM in parallel. On the lemon law, i had thought about that - but i have a few fundamental problems pursuing that.

1. FCA doesn't make the diesel anymore, and i waited a LONG time to get that
2. I am in more on accessories and suspension than the truck is worth, even if they paid me full price for it (which they won't)
3. This seems like an issue that shouldn't require the whole vehicle to be replaced. Being someone in the technology field, this smells like a firmware or software quality problem that can be fixed OTA or at dealership. i just need to be able to find someone smart enough to engage on it

@JeepCares - please review and reply to my DM

Could this be interference? Have you tried unplugging antenna one by one to see if a signal is causing the issue?

grayhound, not sure if follow you here - sorry.

unplug what antennae - the oem whip antennae, the sxm antennae, the gmrs antennae, or all of the above?

regardless, i would assume (yes i know that is dangerous) that the dealership did all this before they went through the hassle of replacing the radio - right?

Yes each of those antennas one by one and trouble shoot to see if you have a bad antenna that may be throwing a signal in the air that the radio is picking up

I’d be surprised if a dealer did this. They can throw parts at problems.

got it, i will give that a try (except for the xm satellite not sure where that cable run is).

the only thought i have here is that even when i use a complete standalone device (i.e. my phone) and run that audio through to the infotainment system - it still does this. wouldn't that eliminate the antennae as the culprit? not arguing against the suggestion, just thinking out loud...

If the radio is picking up a signal that is causing it to malfunction that could be creating the hiccup even when your phone is hard wired. Imagine the radio wanting to shift from fm to xm repeatedly.

FYI, update on this.

I did contact them, and they are sending me back into the dealership for another appointment. They won't do anything else until after this, so no progress for the next few weeks when i could get into dealer for service

do you know if the dealer that "removed" the Tazer knows how to properly *Unmarry* the Tazer (not just "remove" it?

yes, that was the first thing the dealership did was remove the tazer and test everything

I would guess something in the CANBUS is sending out garbage or reset commands/something along that line that the radio is just more reactive to. Has the dealer tried anything with checking the data coming from other devices?
