I’ve asked on Reddit & Facebook Jeep pages, no one seems to have any idea so here I am.

I bought the vehicle 2 months ago with 96k miles on it. I did buy a 36 month 36k mile warranty just to be safe, because ya know Jeep. This isn’t my first Jeep, I had a 94 YJ for my first car. I drove that thing until it was more expensive to fix than it was worth (I have MANY regrets now).

Anywho. I’ve been having an issue for awhile where the ABS light, the service 4wheel drive, & the traction control comes on sporadically. Sometimes I can be driving down a straight road, other times I can be braking either on a flat surface or on an incline. On the digital dash it tells me “service ABS soon” & “service stabilization system soon”.

The first time it happened I took it to the dealership I bought it from, they said it was my front drivers side hub, ABS sensor, & speed sensor. They replaced it, about 2 days later it came back on. I took it to a friend of mine who owns a shop & grew up around Jeeps. He ran diagnostics, showed me the scan & told me it was the front passenger side hub, ABS sensor, & speed sensor. I paid him $280 for parts, he did not charge me for labor which was EXTREMELY nice of him. Unfortunately, that still did not fix the issue.

I did some research on JScan, I bought one of the top modules they recommended & the connectors, then downloaded JScan. Also with some research I’ve discovered it could be a green car bus. Has ANYONE had this issue before? If you have did you use JScan to find it? What ended up being the problem? I’m sick of it & beginning to have buyers remorse because it’s been nothing but a pavement princess & I can’t take it on the trails like it’s meant to be.

if you bought a warranty and it’s still throwing codes, why not take it back to the dealership?

Yes, your issue most likely is with the Can bus star connector part# 68321746AA. Bad solder joints on the PCB. I got the Christmas tree lights about 2 weeks ago, did some research and ordered that part. The part came in today. I was messing around with it on Friday morning looking over the PCB and put it back in to drive. Since my messing with it all the error codes have gone away. When it would act up the dash would say service 4wd, track sys, loss of speedo info ETC. , and one day lost power steering control. Ill be replacing that connector tomorrow/today after work. 90% confident thats the fix and should be good to go.

For a 2018 with random dash lights, one of causes could be a bad auxiliary battery (behind the passenger fender)
I also agree with this too. Its best to perform the aux delete/ negative cable removal with pulling the fuse. You'll need to search the forum for the post that tells how to do it, but its simple and saves some headache.

Thank you! I’m currently looking on Mopar for that & potentially an auxiliary battery like someone mentioned above. I’m a little worried about the battery since they’re currently out of stock. I’m hoping it’s the can bus since it’s a much cheaper fix & my husband can do it.

You can pick up a new aux battery at your local Autozone or O’Reilly. I have a 2018 JLU and the ESS light and traction control light has been going off and on since year one of ownership. I’m the original owner. 4 dealerships later and no one can figure it out. Had multiple new batteries put in. Still an issue. Doesn’t seem to impact the performance of anything. Eventually I plan on doing the aux battery delete or trying buying the new part for the PCB one of the people mentioned in this post.

My vote is the CANBUS. I had the same thing happen and replacing the CANBUS cured it. The CANBUS is where all of those sensors come together. Make sure to get a MOPAR part. Amazon has cheap Chinese knock offs that I wouldn't trust. It's an easy part to change, located behind the glove box. There are plenty of youtube videos showing how.

It's recommended if you change 1 battery to change them both at the same time. You can also disconnect the aux battery neg cable at the main battery and pull fuse 42 to take the aux battery out of the ESS system. Lots of people on the forum have done that and if you search for it there are many threads discussing it.

Have your batteries load tested separately. If one is bad, replace both. Check all battery cables and grounds. Could be a canbus issue, but check and eliminate batteries as the cause first. If you have a warranty, take it there, even if they’re idiots. Make sure your warranty covers this stuff first, some warranties are power train only.

First, review the law in your state for getting a buy-back. My guess is that you need a track record of returning for the problem several times. Just so you know.

If you decide the route you want to go is to fix it yourself, get rid of the auxiliary battery. You can find the thread on pulling the fuse 42 and removing the aux battery and ground cable, and isolating the positive aux cable. It works. We just did this last week to a friend's 2019.

Unfortunately Alabama does not have buy back for used vehicles, they have to be sold “as is” unless there is still a factory warranty.

I’m concerned that if I pull the battery I will lose the functions of the display screen for 4wheel drive, the maps, etc too. I’m going to research the other posts to see if people have said they lost certain features though.

With the fuse 42 pull and aux delete, we didn't have any issues. I've been running a Genesis dual battery system that essentially does the same thing, deletes the aux battery.

Hi! I also bought a '18 JL and it has been a nightmare. One, this also is not my first jeep, but it is my first ever vehicle that has had any issues whatsoever. Two, the BUS CAN is the major issue for most of the electronics issues. If you look up the recalls for this model and that were done to yours, you'll see every single one is most likely failing again and needs replaced. As well as the 2nd battery. Which is the aux battery. My jeep is a manual transmissionn, and if you also have a manual transmission, and have not had issues with the clutch yet. Well, there's a recall on that as well, because it quit literally blows up and blows everything around it including the transmission.
