According to the owners manual, the straps are used for both. Like I said, they don't do much in full down. I'll see how the velcro does, but I understand what you are saying. Maybe I'll use both sets of straps.I was using velcro too but the whole assembly would still "bounce." So, I thought I'd try this way for a while. Seems to work really well so far and the 48 inches is just the right amount of tension.
The velcro straps that we got with our Jeep are just for sun-rider mode. They work well at keeping the top from boppin' around at high speeds or in high winds.
