You're not missing a thing! You will be just fine doing the first oil change at "4-5k miles". There are those gear heads/mechanics, etc., though, that promote changing the factory oil fill at say 2500 miles versus waiting longer. They do first oil & filter change at approx. 2500 mi. and then start their routine oil change/mileage regimen.

Do a Google search on this topic. There are a zillion thoughts on this issue.

As for me.. I will do first at say 2500-3000 and then..............

I think I'll wait a bit longer as well, I thought 1000km was advised by factory, but I haven't checked into the manual yet :)
Thanks for the PM, got it and replied!

FYI... you can buy the genuine MOPAR filter at Wally World for $10 or on Amazon for $6. I read somewhere that even though the other filters look the same they are the same quality.

Personally I'd use Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 full synthetic and stay away from Mobil. Owner's manual says, MOPAR, Pennzoil or Shell Helix.

You can pick up Pennzoil 0w-20 at Wally world for $27 when they have it in stock.

BTW... I love the fact that is a true 5qt fill. I drained the oil on a level surface, changed the filter and poured the entire 5qt. jug of oil in and it was perfect on the dipstick.

The Fram Ultraguard is a much better filter for only a dollar or two more. If you want to save money, the Mopar filters can be had for 7 bucks at Amazon. Fram Extra Guards are about 6 bucks at Wal Mart and are better constructed and filter better than the Mopar, too.

As for Mobil 1, I wouldn't worry about it. It would FAR exceed the Chrysler specification, if tested. I've run Mobil 1 for over 30 years in my vehicles, lawn mowers, boat engines, etc. It meets API specs, same as Pennzoil or any other major brand of oil. If it makes you nervous, by all means stick with Pennzoil or even Mopar. Pennzoil is outstanding oil. However, I've got total confidence in Mobil 1 oils, so I'll happily continue to run them.

This is your opinion and no more.

Reality is there are many, many, many mechanics, etc. that think the Fram Ultraguard is garbage!
They would never consider using one.

Suggest people here Google search on this issue/ on oil filters before purchasing any oil filter. After this purchase the one you desire whether it be a Mopar, Wix, or whatever..

I'm all for you saying I use this oil filter and yada yada but but your stating that "The Fram Ultraguard is a much better filter" and that a Fram Extra Guard is "better constructed and filter better" then the Mopar offering are absolutely comical/nonsensical. Of course, unless you can provide documentation that proves otherwise and you can't.

Here is the fact: 99% efficiency down to 20 microns. The data is there. Show me the data for the Mopar filter is better, and I won't call it a fact. Heck, I'll go further and won't even keep it as an opinion. Tear the filters apart, while you are at it. Then tell me the Mopar is better constructed.

Is the Mopar filter just paper/cellulose?

Is the Fram Ultra Guard synthetic material?

Yes. The fram has 2 layers of synthetic media. It flows better, filters better, and has more capacity for holding debris. Each pleat is backed by metal mesh, so it can withstand higher pressure. Mobil 1's filter is backed by metal mesh, too, but filters less efficiently.

You are the one that is spewing pure crapola here. You take the time to show the data here that supports your comments. Like I said, people need to do their own Google search / research before believing the bullchitt they read in a forum thread like this.

And to think that some young guy or gal that is not up to speed on oil filters might come here and read such a post and believe it without doing their homework.

Again, pound the drum for your Fram but to throw out all the other crapola is just not right.

I might add that the Mopar filter is the only one that you will never have lets say thrown in your face if you have a warranty issue.

I just did post the data for the Fram. Try finding Mopar's data and then help me understand why it is hard to find.

And, you just said you weren't going to do the homework. I did mine and shared it. Prove me wrong. It shouldn't be hard, if I am.

The Mopar is adequate. The Fram Ultra is a premium filter. Inspect them closely and see for yourself. Then compare filtration data. Simple.

I have a question that hopefully does not get lost in this debate war :punch:

I assume the Mopar filter for the new JL is the same that is used in a JK '15 MY? I know before that they were different and they did something with the nipple. Have they changed the filter between the 3.6 Pentestar motor from 15' MY to the new JL?

It should be the same, a Mopar M349.
