I looked briefly and didn't find anything. Was curious if there was any info or speculation about the 2019 Wrangler 3.6L getting the eTorque like the Ram 1500. That may make ESS and a manual 3.6L much more appealing if it smooths things out and gives a little extra acceleration off the line.

The Turbo 2.0L already has eTorque in the 2018 JL.

Supposedly the rumour is the 3.6L will be getting it in 2019 MY.

That makes sense. That'll be interesting to see. I wonder how the 0-60 times will be affected and how much more smooth it makes ESS. I suppose we'll get reviews of it in the Ram 3.6L first.

This makes me think the 2019 Wrangler will get the upgraded 3.6L Pentastar as well; 305hp/269tq would be a solid upgrade.

It will also be interesting to see how those vibration cancelling modules work on the 2019 RAM.

One thing I don't understand is why the new RAM 1500 and new Cherokee are 2019 MY while the Wrangler JL is 2018.

Wrangler came out first but the MY numbers never really make much sense.

I bet they didn’t have the new engine ready for wrangler shipments. Seems like the new ram will see them in about 8 months or so. So I bet we see wranglers with the new engine around this time next year. Will be interesting to see if it works with the manual and what the results are like. I could easily see it adding 1 mpg, and .5 second quicker 0-60 and it become the new base engine with only a small model year price increase.

Sounds good. I imagine we will have some reviews of it by this time next year. The eTorque is what really separates Fiat products from Ford and GM. If it works as intended it’ll be pretty good. I really like the regen brakes in my car but I’ve heard that tech has been implemented poorly in other applications. It’ll be interesting to see how that works out.

Here's an update on the latest dates we have. The 2019MY production launch date remains the same as in the first post but now we have some ORDER START dates:

2018 JL order cut-off: 7/19/2018
2018 JL production end: 10/27/2018

2019 JL order banks open: 9/13/2018
2019 JL Production launch: 10/29/2018
I'll be at some dealership, somewhere, on the 14th of September ordering mine. Hopefully.

I'm more interested in how the pricing breakdown will be for the 3.6 with eTorque.

Right now, the 3.6 is the base engine and the 2.0 with eTorque is a 1000 upgrade. When the 3.6 gets the eTorque, I wonder if the 2.0 will become the new base engine, with the new 3.6 being an upgrade, making base prices increase yet again for the 2019 model year.

The 3.6L eTorque will be the base engine replacing the 3.6L regular. Likely a modest model year price increase. The 2.0L will still be a premium cost likely.

Is that set in stone already? If the 3.6 eTorque ends up getting better efficiency numbers than the 2.0, I don't see the logic in pricing it below. This is especially the case if the 3.6 power numbers go up with the addition of eTorque too. Right now the torque numbers are lower than the 2.0, but HP is higher.

Not sure about pricing. But, the 2.0 will likely still get better mpg and produce more torque. More torque/better mpg and lower emissions will likely still command the premium price. $1000 extra is a pretty small premium I think. It will make the 3.6 way more competitive though. It's quite pathetic in it's current form. I think they're just trying to unload the old ones with the new Wrangler because they know it'll still sell out even though it's not competitive and old tech.

We’ll have to wait and see. With the extra 91lbft of torque from take-off the BSG could change some of the Pentastar’s performance profile significantly, and will definitel impact the easy EPA test numbers for the city. I won’t comment on perceptions of the current PUG, we’ve been there and done that.

I suspect that the 2.0 would’ve been the base engine without eTorque’s presence, and it would’ve been much slower off the line. And the current price positioning allows them to work through development and introduction of the 2.0T while the PUG still takes the brunt of the orders while 2.0T capacity is built.

I expect to pay more for the PUG+BSG, and I suspect it will put the 2.0L as the base engine price wise (regardless of performance) once it arrives, unless someone thinks we can pay $999 or less for all the eTorque components.

* edited to correct the BSG torque number, in my haste put the 72lbft of the 2.0T not the 91lbft of the PUG.

I think GM was the first to do this with eAssist. They've got it in a few models. Nobody really seems to care about it though.
