Screw the neighbor. I don't need a Rubicon but I gd ordered one anyway! No regrets! Or regerts :-D
For sure. My response was "Need it, no. But I got it!" If I bought just what was needed, what a boring life it would be.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I am trading my 13 sport S and want to stick with a 2 door. Moving on up to a Rubi is my dream.

I would say your numbers are pretty close. Not sure about the Sahara being that close in price, I never actually priced one. But if it costs that much with the options you want and you like the look of the Rubicon over the Sahara, I would say you will kick yourself for not getting the Rubicon when it's that close in price.
I would encourage you to test drive both and see which one you like driving best and go from there.

Rubicon is a better value for axles and tires alone. I love my LEDs, a must have, tow package for the alternator and switches, an Alpine upgrade worth it to me because the low grade radio is very low grade. The only option I regret not getting is proximity enty, trust me on this one.
If you can't find what you want exactly on lot, order one. It will only take a month.

Hi all! I lurk pretty much every day, trying not to post much and just learn until I finally get my dream car, a JLU. It's getting harder to find specific info so I thought I'd start a thread that I can come back and refer to for research in the meantime. This is going to be a bit of a long post so I apologize in advance, haha!

To give a little background, I have never owned or bought a new vehicle and this will be my first. I've wanted a Jeep since seeing Jurassic Park as a kid :CWL: Last year, I rented a 2018 JKU and fell in love, then the other day I test drove a 2019 JLU and now I know I need one. I'm getting ready to deploy for the Army (no big deal, just a CONUS "deployment") and will be using this opportunity to save up for a large down payment on a new JL. I plan on putting down anywhere from $20-25k and working OT to get this thing paid off as quickly as possible (absolutely hate having a car payment).

I'm a stickler for research, especially since this is a very large purchase (for me) and I plan on keeping this vehicle for..well until it literally can't move anymore lol. I guess what I'm trying to do now, since I won't be purchasing until next year, is trying to research what options I want, what trim package would be best to shoot for, and what I can expect when going to buy the car.

1. Options: I've spent a lot of time dreaming on the builder on Jeep's website and I believe I have nailed down what features I absolutely want, what I would like but could live without, and what I don't want at all. As far as absolute wants go: LED lights, trailer/tow package, remote start (I believe that you have to add the cold weather group for that?), 3 piece black hard top. I like the 7" screen for the radio, but it's not a must. I'm also set on the 2.0L engine.

2. Trim package: I of course would love to get a Rubicon. I can get all the options I want with it and I love the style of the JLUR. At the same time it's the most expensive of my options (not even looking at the Altitude or Moab lol). Going off the options that I "have to have" such as LED lights, that limits me to the Sahara or Rubicon. I do plan on offroading and trail-riding with this vehicle, and I would love to go out west some day and do some rock crawling. But in reality this is going to be my daily driver and I live in Florida so trails/mud are probably going to be the main thing I do with it. That being said, I still don't want to limit myself.

3. Buying the car: So like I said, I've never bought a new car before. I've dealt with dealerships on used cars, but never new. This being my first new car and my last car for the foreseeable future, I do want it to be what I really want but money is still a factor. After laying out everything, I believe the lowest trim package I'd like to go with is a Sahara, but I'd really like a Rubicon. However, I'm not sure I NEED a Rubi for my uses and I don't want to be one of those typical mall-crawler bros

As far as pricing goes, I've gone over the order forms and the spreadsheets from this forum over and over. I know there's a dealership in Lakeland that gives 7% under invoice no problem, so that's what I've been going off of. Based on the build spreadsheet, a 2019 JLUR built the way I want is $51,107.90 MSRP and $45,030.36 at 7% under invoice (both after taxes. A Sahara with the options I want (however not with the upgraded axle etc of the JLUR) shows at $50,837.60 MSRP and $44,714.90 at 7% under invoice.

I guess what I'm asking at this point is, do these sound like realistic numbers to expect when I go to buy my new Jeep? Or a I missing something? I realize things can change between now and when I actually go to buy, but I'm just trying to figure out what I can expect and what kind of money I need to save up for. I know from what I've read, many here prefer to order. However, I don't necessarily need the brand new year model. I'm totally okay with, say, getting a 2020 after the 2021 hits the lots. But do previous MY order banks stay open for any length of time after the new MY hits?

Finally, judging from the info I gave, do you guys think getting the Rubicon is worth the extra money? Or is it a waste since I probably won't be rock crawling and such, and should just go with the Sahara?

Again, sorry for the long-winded post. I've been trying to keep my posting limited until I actually get my JL. I'm really excited and just like to have all my ducks in a row well in advance. I really appreciate you guys and any responses/advice you can give me. Love this forum and it's been a trove of information!! Cheers, guys and gals. :jk:

What an amazingly well-thought-out and well-written post and set of questions.
I’m very happy with my 3 month old Sport, and have no advice to give, although I have made a few Rubicony mods already.
I am grateful that young men as bright and orderly in their thoughts as you still choose to serve.
There is no higher calling.
Thanks.

"Do I really need a Rubicon?" "Is it worth the extra?" "Will I really use it to its potential?"
In the end, my wife told me to just get the Rubicon or at some point I'll be saying "I should have gotten the Rubicon".
Do you really need a beautiful wife? Would just a mediocre one do, right? That's why I intend to get a Rubicon. Will I ever use it's full potential? Maybe, maybe not. But, that's what I want.

Beautiful Rubicon you have there by the way!

Well I'm sure you know what they say about men and Rubicons;) Since I'm a woman, a Sport works wonderful for my needs. O wait, I must be compensating for small boobs since I upgraded to the Sport S :CWL:.....

When I looked at Sahara vs Rubicon I wanted to stay in low 40k (got 5% below invoice). I don't plan on rock crawling, got Sahara with upgraded rear axial. Going with Rubicon would have been ~$3000 more due to trim pricing.
This is my daily driver so overall comfort was important to me.

All I'm going to add to this convo @DiabloBlanco is that if your numbers are only $300 different between a Sahara and a Rubicon then you're missing something. When I bought a Moab there was considerably more than a $300 difference between it and a similarly-equipped Rubicon. Food for thought...

Don’t spoil our fantasies, Grey Fox. In my mind, I see you as Sophia Loren, Tanya Tucker, Angelina Jolie, and Melania Trump all rolled into one gorgeous gun-toting Army veteran Jeep girl.
Let me believe that. Please.

Whew! Thanks! Just playin’. You sure are a consistently bright shining star on this outfit, though.
Always an encouraging, kind word. Unless someone needs a boot up their ass. You handle that quite elegantly as well.

Screw the neighbor. I don't need a Rubicon but I gd ordered one anyway! No regrets! Or regerts :-D
Some really wise person on these forums once wrote “no one needs a Wrangler, you get one because you want one”.
1st DiabloBlanco made me LOL, that is what our IT manager at work calls me, guess I can be a pain in his @ss, mostly its part of a mutual respect we have for each other and some constant busting of each other’s chops. I digress.
more than likely no one on here ‘needs’ a Wrangler, we wanted them. From that logic no one ‘needs’ a Rubi, if we got it, we wanted it. I wheel frequently and push mine pretty hard, did i ‘need’ a rubi? Nah. Did I wanted one? Yep! So that’s what i got. You should do the same = get what makes you smile when you walk up to it. No one is going to make the payments except you, what those payments go towards should make you smile.
2nd if the prices are close Sahara vs Rubi I’d go rubi why? Because it was what i wanted, easy enough decision making process for me.
3rd wheeling in Florida the stock rubi tires might do better in mud vs. the Goodyear’s on the Sahara = wont need tires off the jump.
TLDR version: get what makes you smile, no one ‘needs’ a Wrangler or trim A, B, or C’. But, sounds like you want one and that is enough, make sure to get the want that you want! And enjoy!
