@American Jeeper; yeah...according to the manual, 4L disables AutoPark. And I agree it’s annoying...but I also think it’s a nice feature. It would also be nice to be able to turn it off...but I’ve gotten to where I just buckle the seat belt behind me when I’m going to be hopping in and out to move the Jeep around.
Maybe the Tazer addresses it. I need to get one of those things!

After discovering this on my wife's jeep, she was furious about this. Her aggravation was based on this being a safety issue for her in the event that if she were to be mugged as she was trying to get in her jeep she would not be able to get away if the door was open which would leave her victimized and would leave jeep corporation liable. So obviously jeep did not think this through.

So once I realized that it would go into gear if the door was open but only when your seat belt is on, I then purchased a seat belt extender from the world wide web (thanks again Al Gore)....... problem is solved for $19.95

When FCA first starting licensing the trans from ZF, you could drive with the door open.

Then a guy from Star Trek was killed, because he got out, wasn't in park and the Jeep rolled and crushed him. Recall was issued to change the programming to autopark if the door was opened, and it's been that current way since. There is no going back after a lawsuit.

It's pointless and stupid on the JL. They did it on the Grand cherokee because the idiot from Star Trek ran over himself by getting out with his GC in gear and it ran him over, killing him. The Grand Cherokee has a ratchet like shifter and it's pretty easy to leave in gear if you aren't used to it. The JL has a normal shifter though so they should pull that out of the TCM's code.
So it’s “pretty easy” (your words) to leave that Grand Cherokee’s shifter in gear, but Anton Yelchin is an idiot for making that mistake?

First of all, it’s pretty tasteless to talk about the dead that way. Second, you don’t know what was going on that day. Maybe he hadn’t slept in 36 hours because of work. Maybe it was a hard day on set and his mind was elsewhere. Maybe he had a horrible argument with a significant other. He had a new Jeep and wasn’t yet 100% used to an automatic transmission design that diverged from what he had been driving for 11 years prior to that- a stupid, unnecessary design change that removes the haptic feedback of shifter position that we’ve all gotten used to over the years and replaces it with something that you can only be truly sure if it worked by visually looking at the “PRND” indicator on the dash. And yes, on flat ground it’s obvious when it’s erroneously left in gear but on an incline it probably moved verrrrry slowly, making it harder to notice (until it was too late).

I understand this is a old post but wanted to clarify one thing. Anyone who gets run over by their own vehicle is a complete moron. If you are dumb enough to let this happen to yourself and get killed you should consider it a example of natural selection. Hopefully it happens before you have a any children so that your genes of stupidity are not passed on to future generations.
See everything I said above. You really make yourself look like an asshat when you say stupid shit like that, as if you’ve never made a mistake or done something wrong in a new and unfamiliar vehicle. Imagine for a second that instead of the blinker stalk to the left of the steering wheel they had two buttons on the right side of the steering wheel. How long would it take you to get used to that? If someone died because they couldn’t intuitively indicate a lane change would you be on here saying “derrrr, dumbass.... Darwinism...”?

In short, go **** yourselves.

The point of the original post is to find a work around....... so I found one that is relatively inexpensive option for the people on this forum which is what the people want. ....... they don't want drama....... here is the link to the site I used

He probably wasn’t “dumbassed” but I can’t really speak to that. And no, no one was enriched by his demise. That’s just stupid.

You can call me sensitive if you want; I won’t argue that. My bullshit tolerance is very low these days and it doesn’t take much stupidity to set me off.

Has she been mugged before? Seems like a very unlikely scenatio to get worked up about. Get her her CCL so she can blow any mugger away.

Lots of crying indeed. I'd like to use everyone's tears in a bidet to wash my big dirty hairy inflamed butt hole!
