FYI: Here is a recent quote posted on Edmunds Forum by one of their Lease Moderators:

2018 JLUR on 36/10k
MF: .00190 - .00230
RV: 70% (69% for 12K)

That's pretty similar to JK. The MF is a tick higher but rates are going up in general.

Of course those rates are pretty crappy. .00190- .00230 = 4.56% - 5.52%

with MF at 0.00230, on a $50k MSRP vehicle, monthly finance charge is 2/3 of the monthly depreciation - ridiculous

I don't have a major in finance but: I would wager those numbers don't hold long if inflation kicks in as suspected by the market today.....more like .0025+

any way you slice it, if monthly depreciation is $290 and monthly finance charge is $180 - it's ridiculous. This is why leasing $50k Wrangler is a close to $600 a month affair ($0 drive off) instead of low-mid $400s. That'd be alright if the vehicle itself would not contain ridiculous profit margin.

I guess, if Wrangler had a profit margin like a typical mid-size sedan, a $50k MSRP one would have an MSRP of $35-38k. So not only FCA gets its fair share on selling the vehicle itself, it double-down on the back end too.

I want the car, I like the car, but my brain is telling me this deal is for losers

Most certainly every vehicle and every lease package isn’t for every person......devils advocate here though, what other 50k vehicle holds its value as well? Leases on Wranglers is a strange beast I agree.

With the math mentioned why not spend 150-200 more a month and finance? At least most of your investment will be to the principal and with such a high residual you will come out way ahead.

@Firemedicsparky The benefit of Wrangler holding its value good is defeated by the insane MF (assuming it's 0.00230).

@snelldogg getting a 72 month loan (to fall into $800 payment) committing thousands of dollars upfront (assuming some down-payment) then 3-4 years later paying off a loan and selling Wrangler to recoup some of the $ back vs $0 drive-ff, about $450 a month for 36 months (assuming adequate, reasonable MF) is a lot more pragmatic.

Obviously Jeep profiting is good, but if you knew that on a $50k MSRP vehicle Jeep and its Finance company made - give or take - $15k in profit over 36 month lease vs $4-5k profit on a $50k mid-sizer from another maker, it's obvious that Jeep deal sucks big time in contrast to the rest of the automotive leasing landscape

I hear you and may have been hasty in my response but if you can finance at 3.5% form72 or even 84 months and sell the car for anywhere near the estimated residual value you would be way ahead vs leasing.

Certainly as the prices get higher the unreasonably high money factors start to make leasing a Wrangler less attractive. But paying $800/month for your car payment and having so much money tied into an asset that is depreciating is not attractive either.

The bottom line is that there is no way to buy a $50,000+ car that is attractive unless you have a lot of equity in your current vehicle to offset it. It is a shit sandwich no matter how you garnish it.
