Not happy about this but your idea seems to me to be the best band-aid until Jeep does something. I'm going to order them after visiting the service department today.
I would think that even in the summer on days with high humidity this system would not defog the windows very well either.
If you bring it up at the dealer today I would like to hear their response. Its an obvious design flaw and as far as I am concerned a saftey issue. Without the socket holders in place both sides of my windows never clear, its ridiculous

I like these and were exactly what I was looking for originally but couldn't find. Do they compression fit, any risk of them bouncing out? If they are snug I am getting those too, very clean look

Thanks
They do essentially "click in" almost with those little ridges on the sides. They won't go flying out, they are a pain to get out.

What I don't know, however, is if they'll move around a little bit or not. They might require a dab of hot glue or something not permanent to just keep them perfectly in place. I also didn't try with 30+ of them in which will obviously increase the air force coming out.

Will report back when I get the 36 I ordered from eBay and give them a shot.

Went to dealer today. Acknowledged the fact that the air does not defuse but there is nothing wrong other than it doesn't work well. Can't fix what isn't broke. Advised me to keep checking back to see if FCA is going to address it.
In looking at the dash, I see the speakers are placed tight to the windshield on both sides. That probably doesn't help

So, yours really doesn't work.
The "entire freeken" windshield is pretty small compared to most.
I would compare this system to a hair dryer on medium pointed to the center of the windshield.
just cold is not the problem. Snow and ice is - as was reinforced this morning.
I've never kept my jeeps in the garage - keep scratching at the door- so it is nice to have a defroster that works.
Never said that...it works fine.

compared to the JK and every previous vehicle I've owned, mine (and presumably everyone else's in this thread) does not work fine, the air distributions not equal from center to sides and the sides dont defrost

It's OBVIOUS that the engineer that developed the duct for the defrost forgot/overlooked a diffuser plate to the inside of the duct..... POOR FUNCTION.

This does create an opportunity for someone to create a mount (phone, GPS, etc) using the socket holders to fix the mount to dash..... 2 Birds 1 Stone!

Mine works fine so far. It was real cold today in Philly. Also I couldn’t find any windshields that had this problem in the “show your snow wheeling pics” thread from the snow storm that hit a bunch of parts of the country late last year. All the windshields in all those frozen snowy pics looked fine. I got to think with 240,000 of these things sold last year we’d hear a lot more about this than this one thread if it was a design defect. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/forums/show-tell-jl-wrangler-photos-and-videos.39/
Just my $0.02...I have this issue but it doesn't cause a big problem for me...but my use case is certainly on the milder end of wintery areas. I remote-start my vehicle, and Kentucky winter so far hasn't gotten much below 20 degrees and no accumulated snow. I didn't notice it until I saw this thread, probably the same for the many who haven't read the thread and live in more moderate areas. I can certainly see where it would cause problems in colder climates with more ice and snow. I will seek to remedy it with the ideas from this thread, though. Thanks everyone for the input!

Trying out these little tubing caps from Amazon... the 5/8 size fits perfectly, definitely an alternative to the socket organizer and a little less noticeable

Only thing I don't like is they are a little bit shiny/weird textured... going to order more (definitely need way more than 10 of them) from this Ebay seller, seems to have a matte/cleaner texture to match the interior

testing out the 10 from amazon, looks ok I think:

Thanks to the OP and to paulr, Just ordered 24 of them from ebay (two sets of 12). Fortunately I live in SoCal so defrost is a rare need, but i did notice this last week and it wasn't enough of an issue for me to remember a few hours later. Ran across this thread and it reminded me so i went out and checked and sure enough, no air out the sides, just straight up the center. I agree this is an obvious design flaw and Jeep should fix it. Period. I can only imagine what you folks are going through where there is real weather. Was planning on heading up to the mountains for a weekend and am glad i saw this thread before i went.
Thanks to this great community fornot only finding things, but proposing practical solutions. You all add value to the Jeep brand more than FCA knows!

PS> Hey Jeep, its OK to make mistakes, just acknowledge and fix 'em. We will still love you. Promise!

Only 1 set of 12 left on eBay. I bought 2 sets earlier today too. That seller is probably wondering what the hell is going on with these! Haha.

Defroster design is definitely not good. One inch of light fluffy snow after 15 mins. Terrible design @JeepCares. This needs be fixed for the future. No way this work while driving in a full blizzard. The passenger wiper would definitely freeze.

@JeepCares
I left my jeep overnight in Trenton NJ last night and started it up today with a sheet of ice on the windshield (all the snow melted a bit and iced up). Put the defroster on and had absolutely no problem after 5 minutes just turning the wipers on, they wiped all the ice away because it was melted nicely. So far mine works perfectly. Again, if this was a design flaw, why is it not showing in the show your snow wheeling pics threads? It must be a defect in some Jeeps not a design flaw.

Hey practicaltact & RDT300,

We would like to have this looked into further to better understand the concerns. To do this, we would recommend scheduling diagnosis at your dealership, and letting us know at least 48 hours in advance so we can escalate a case and get our corporate technical team involved right away when the vehicle arrives. Please PM us if you'd like to do this!
