I ordered my JLUR with the steel bumpers and I'm kicking myself because I already ordered replacements and the Jeep ain't here yet. I'm sure I can sell the factory ones at a loss, but yes, there are much better available on the aftermarket for cheaper.

You're going to have to remove the bumper to install the winch plate, so you might as well go aftermarket and install an entire different bumper while you're at it.

Pic for reference:

Obviously, that pic isn't finished...just gives an idea of what I did on mine. Lots of ways to skin that cat.
Oh yeah I remember seeing this a little while back!

That's you I been sparring with?? I'll be damned...

Can you make a custom bumper like that for a real Jeep like mine...or does that only fit on yours?

It's cute that you think Mopar even comes close to comparing to almost every aftermarket manufacturer out there.

Cute?? Wtf...

Prove me wrong then...weight, functionality, quality, ease of use, price. Let's see what you got

Sparring with? Not sure what you're referring to....

As for the bumper....it's not bolt on. You'd have to be willing to cut 6.5" off your frame, along with a bunch of other stuff.

Here's some of the stuff I cut off.

Now mine's angled at 60º for a bit of aesthetic styling....but if you did 90º, you could get the bumper even shorter....where it stuck out past the grill only 3 7/8" at the very leading edge. It would be even more simple to make, but it would be a little boring in terms of looks.

***EDIT*** I ended up ditching the factory sway bar as it was a magnet for trail damage. Here it is with the Anti-Rock:

Wow! Actually looks really good..just messin' with you bud.

Seriously, that looks awesome...like I said if you can custom build your own then that the way to go.

I'd buy it for sure

Can your Rubi keep up with the rock crawler? Just curious, never had the opportunity to drive one.

LOD, ACE, Poison Spyder. Should I keep going? The rear bumper in the Mopar kit is a complete joke.

Unfortunately, the time is the killer....for what it would cost in terms of labor, no one would be willing to pay it. Some things are a labor of love, I suppose. In this case, I did it for my wife (it's her Jeep). ;) She's freaking AWESOME.

I went with the steel bumpers because of the ability to go to the stubby, they actually look pretty damn good and purely from a factory warranty standpoint that will cover any rusting issues if any. From my experience with my last 2 Jeeps where I bought aftermarket bumpers, they started to show signs of weathering around the 2.5 year mark where I had to take them off and get the finish redone and yes I did take care of them during the winter time (buffalo NY area).

Come on be serious.....and dont say that because Lite Brite has video on it, they put there rig through what a rock crawler should be doing.

No. They're not really comparable once you get on a serious trail.

We originally bought our TJ several years ago to build into something more like the buggy....like a juggy if you will. We have most of the parts except the tranny (built 700R4) and a few misc things like ORI struts and 42" tires. Already have the LSX 525hp, TWF Hero 3 speed tcase (2.5 and 5.44 low range gears), 14 bolt rear, D60 front, locked f/r.

We were going to stretch it to 110" WB, 42's on Stazworks beadlocks, make a whole new frame, plate the tub in 3/16" before powder coating the whole thing, cut 6" out of the middle of the tub, hood, windshield, grill and fiberglass top, then weld it all back together to make it narrow like the buggy and keep the body out of the rocks as much as possible.

I kept telling her that when it was all done she'd want a buggy. Well, after the first trip with the JLUR, she saw the limitations of having a body and decided we're going to sell her TJ and build a buggy with those parts instead. I'm really thankful it worked out that way....it would likely take me 2 full years to build the TJ the way she wanted and then it wouldn't have been what she wanted and wouldn't have worked nearly as well as the buggy we'll build instead.

Unfortunately, full bodied rigs are at a severe disadvantage when the trails get really hard. They're too heavy and if you care about the body at all.....they're just really limited in what they can do.

Word302 is right....
Weight is really the only place the factory bumpers can compete and that's only b/c they are much thinner and weaker. So quality, functionality, ease of use, all go to the aftermarket companies.
In order to be a better option must beat all catagories...isnt that the way its measured??

Sorry, Mopar is engineered, tested and proven I strongly disagree on the aftermarket stuff
