Is Bolt making MOPAR's factory key hood lock for FCA? If so is the MOPAR product going to be the same as the Bolt one?

The mopar one is located on the grille at a higher point and is can be keyed to the stock key. However i am unsure if at this time it requires a locksmith to update the cylinder or if it is a stick it in and forget ordeal. The mopar one also does not have a cover leaving the key slot open. The bolt one is located in the top middle of the grille and keys off your existing key using the bolt technology not requiring a locksmith. It also appears to have a cover as well to prevent grime buildup

As it hasn't been released yet, what evidence do you have? The JK hood lock by Mopar was on the grille and keyed to the existing key. Why would Mopar take a step backwards?

The Mopar lock for the JK "needs to be Keyed/Coded by your local Jeep Dealer or Locksmith." Not the case for the Bolt lock for the JK.

Right, but it uses the stock key, not a different key altogether as the person I was responding to suggested.

I edited my original post and did some hunting to find a pic of what i assume is the mopar one on a jl. I am under the assumption that the mopar one will need a locksmith. I am basing this assumption on the fact that the mopar locking gas cap is not pre-keyed either.

FWIW the matching JL key gas cap lock (there's also one that has its own key that's cheaper) didn't require a locksmith (for me) to key, although the less handy of us might be best to use one here.

It actually looks like a fun project setting up the lock cylinder
