I was all ready to pull the trigger on a 2018 JLUR, then the 2019 order banks opened. I'm torn now on if I should just buy the 2018 or order the 2019. Either way I will be getting the same options. Waiting for the jeep isn't really a big deal to me. I'm not impatient :)

The dealer with the 2018 is giving me 5% below invoice making it basically the same exact price for either year. I don't think they are willing to go any lower. What should I do? Do I have any leverage to get more off the 2018?

Thanks

No. The 2018 is still selling itself so I doubt you’ll get any more discount than on a new 2019. If you wanted advanced safety package with ACC and FCW that would push you toward the 2019. Bikini is “late availability” which could mean this time next year.

There are still some 2018 JKs on some lots which might be more heavily discounted.

MSRP goes up $100 in the 2019s and many option packages increased $100 as well.

My suggestion would be to price out the 2019 on the interactive price sheet on here and see what the cost differential is and then make your decision.

My 2018 is shipping today and my cost differential for the exact same 2019 is a little over $1800 per my POC and the 2019 price spread sheet. Now I'll take a hit on depreciation because it will essentially be a year old off the lot but since I'm not planning on trading it in that's not a big issue for me. Also, my 2016 trade value would likely go down as it's also gonna be a year older with the 2019's coming out, so I'm happy with my 2018.

How did you possibly get a $1800 difference on the same build? Also your trade will not be "a year older" from the time your 2018 gets here to when a 2019 would arrive. Couple months at best.

Don’t buy the 2018 JK the new JL is that much better. Yes the price went up only a $100 base plus some options went up a $100 each but if I were you just for resale in the future and since you don’t mind the wait I would get the 2019!! The resale value will be much greater than a few hundred dollars difference in price just because of the model year. I would also say shop around you should be able to get close to 10% below invoice on a 2019 new build there are lots of threads on this forum of the dealers with the lowest pricing. Yes you may have to travel over one or two states but than you get the adventures of driving it back and make a mini vacation out of the trip..just my opinion!

At this point I would order the 2019 if you don't mind waiting. It's a whole year newer for resale later. Plus hopefully more of the production quality control issues will be worked out.

You might have made a typo? I don't think 10%-below invoice on a 2019 is realistic. 10%-below MSRP would be realistic.

Possibly but Dennis Dillon is around 12.5% off MSRP which put me at 10.3% below invoice on my Unlimited Sport build. I have heard that Peterson in Idaho will get you at 14% off MSRP on a new build. So I know he is looking for a Rubicon so not sure with more options if it equates to my same build for a Sport model with minimal options for my build.

You need to check your math. 12.5% off MSRP is nowhere near 10% below invoice.

On my 2017 JK build it was I haven’t equated it to a 2019 build but it has to be close since the invoice to MSRP isn’t that much difference.

Ok you are correct I have fuzzy math..lol. On my 2019 build at 12.5% off MSRP that equates to right at 5% below invoice. On my previous 2017 build it was cheaper back then so who knows if I did the math correct there but I did get 12.5% off MSRP on that Jeep.

Thanks for the input. I was never going for the 2018 JK, only 2018 JL. Thanks Jeep for making this so confusing.

So I think my plan will be to order the 2019 because who would love to have the absolute newest model year possible. To each his own.

I guess I don't see who would bother picking up a '18 at this point, unless they didn't want to wait a few months.

I ordered mine just before the $500 price increase in July. It however got stuck for over a month in I status, so it just shipped TODAY. That plus most of the options I ordered went up. For the record, If I was this person I'd probably wait and get the 2019. The price difference is probably not enough to justify the year depreciation, but I would run the numbers on what the 2019 is going to cost vs what the 2018 is apples to apples and then decide. And given that 2019's will likely not be delivered until December or January trade in values will be adjusted down then.

I've heard the argument a lot that resale will be lower due to being a prior model year. Has anyone looked at the numbers? I think that after a few years resale is pretty much based on mileage (assuming there were no significant changes from one model year to the next). I could be wrong, but that's the impression I have.
