Damn, batteries not includedWay too much, but I'm getting it anyways. Here are the prices for the JK:

So does the ESS than plug into the secondary battery? Isn’t the battery being removed linked to ESS? I know if you unplug it at the main battery it disables ESS? Just asking I am not sure how anyone justifies $4k for an extra battery. No, I think they're getting rid of the smaller aux battery.
It wouldn't be correct to say the ESS system plugs into the secondary battery, because both batteries work in tandem to provide the ESS system's functionality. But I do believe that whatever duties the small auxiliary battery used to do, the new full-size secondary battery will be taking over those same duties. We'll need for them to publish the specs to know for sure how they set it up though. So does the ESS than plug into the secondary battery? Isn’t the battery being removed linked to ESS? There hasn't been any new news on this since they showed a prototype at Easter Jeep Safari and some Florida Jeep Beach event (I think).Has anyone seen more news about this? I am really curious how it will work as the JL seems to have a variable alternator system which involves the onboard computer having an intimate knowledge of the batteries it's charging. I'm curious if they're going to have to add in something like a RedArc BCDC1240D for the second battery rather than using only a relay.
I want bells! I want whistles!fwiw - the base price (on the JK version) is $479, not ~$1400 as posted earlier in this thread. source the batteries locally instead of buying theirs, and you may / may not need all the bells and whistles.
there's just a huge disparity between $500 and $1400 - I think @$500 it's a pretty good deal, even if I have to buy my batteries. At $1400, not so much.
my opinion anyway

I am working on a DIY solution now like that. I managed to bypass the second battery thus far and have all operations run off the main battery, then I Tazered the ESS. My next step is to use one of the Aux switches in momentary mode to trigger a solenoid to reconnect it to the main battery if it needs a boost to start.. Then just add a conventional battery isolator to keep the aux battery charged. That's not the system I wished they made...I was hoping they would build an isolator system that would allow the small starting battery to be isolated, so you can run your fridge and stuff off the main battery, but should it somehow become drained, the isolator would keep the aux battery alive allowing the jeep to start. This is a massive amount of excess weight that IMHO isn't necessary to lug around. In the JK, sure, but since the JL already has a secondary small battery which can start the vehicle, there is no need for a separate full sized third unit.
