I hate mudflaps, but I hate rock chips even more. My 2026 Moab 392 has a wider track than my 2021 Rubicon, since it is built like a 2025 Rubicon XR. You can see that even the wheel opening extensions have wheel opening extensions. However, they do not prevent rock chips on the door hinges. Did I mention I hate rock chips? I did two things to try to eliminate chips:
1.) I added PPF (Paint Protection Film) to the door hinges
2.) I installed WeatherTech mudflaps
WeatherTech said their mudflaps will not fit a JL Rubicon with the XR trim, so I held off on ording them. But being from Missouri, and hearing all the rocks hitting the door hinges while on a gravel road, I had to see for myself. I made them fit. I had no choice if I wanted to sleep at night. I think the install came out OK. I just hope they work.
