Any chance the heat came from your phone? For example, is your phone battery made by Samsung (mini version of the 4xe battery)?
The dashboard of a vehicle is known to get pretty warm in the sun -- if a phone gets that hot it'd be a massive problem.

I agree but considering how many of us use that same mount in much warmer climates without that happening from just sunlight, I am just exploring all options.

@FLTrailRider

Obviously, this should not have happened to your 67 Designs product... but things happen..

You'd think once 67 Designs heard this happened that they would want you to mail back the product on their dime so they could look it over ... and try to figure out why it failed / or was problematic.

I know I have product tested for many a Jeep related product manufacturer and each manufacturer of items I tested wanted to know immediately if a product failed / was faulty. They wanted to know so they could try to find a way to better the product..

Anyway, @FLTrailRider , I took the liberty an hour or so ago to email 67 Designs and tell them to view this thread.. I sent them the link to this thread. I told them it did not look good in regard to the way they handled your issue. They emailed me back and said they will "get this addressed".... they acknowledged that they have you Cust. ID#.

With that said, hopefully 67 Designs will reach out to you and make things right. Reality is it could have been a single customer service guy/gal that mishandled this product failure issue you called them about.. Perhaps they had a problematic few units that went out..

By the way... I have done this sending a link to the manufacturer after I see a disparaging post/thread. Each time with good results. You did the right thing by calling them first before you posted your thread. Lets see if 67 Design's step up.... and let us all know if they give a dam so to speak and take care of you their customer.

.

I use a SONIM XP8 phone ... never gets hot. It was 61 degrees outside in the dark morning.. and it was like soft tar.

Thanks @Rhinebeck01

Hopefully they will fix the problems.

This is what they had emailed me earlier.

I'll ask again:

Any chance you recently did some cleaning of interior and/or windshield?

It sure looks like cleaning chemicals destroyed the rubber.

No it wasn't from cleaning. Most it ever saw was a dust brush.

They did send me a label just now to return the items for warranty testing. I'm sure it was from @Rhinebeck01 help.

Never ever had I had a problem with 67Designs stuff. I had that exact same mount and it never ever melted even in the 120 degrees in Arizona.

Something is fishy about this story. There is no tar or anything of that nature on the mount.

If you're going to replace it - check out Anvil Overland. More expensive, but all steel and aluminum. Solid as a rock. 👍
67 Designs, like the Anvil Overland, is made entirely of metal and aluminum. It features a protective rubber adhesive that prevents metal-to-metal contact and protects the phone.

This user's claim seems rubbish - that protective rubber film cannot disintegrate under normal use as he claims. I have the same mount and can confirm this.

Are you seriously trying to claim that's not from chemicals? It was, as you said, 60 to 75 out, so it's definitely not from heat.

What happened to the side pads? Did they "melt from heat" too?

Sorry, there's no way that's anything but a chemical reaction.

Yes it sure looks like it is from a chemical reaction.

It looks like it was some glue they used to attach the pad the the holder and it reacted/ate/combined with the foam pad turning it into goo.

It just melted the pad.

Wrong.. First it's not rubber, it's some kind of foam, 2nd you don't know what you are talking about. 3rd, I'm not the only one.

It took a year for the chemical to react like that?

It also ate through the side pads?

When did all of this happen?

Dang.. I use the bulletpoint in my 25' and really like the product. I almost bought 67 because it's "made in america" but something just told me go with bulletpoint. Plus I think I got a GovX discount.

I've been using my 67 Designs phone mount with the ball and arm extensions for my cell and also my GMRS radio Mic mount. No issues for me after 3 years here in Western NC. The cell gets put on and taken off several times a day and no issues. I appreciate and support that it is Designed and Manufactured in the USA.
