My Taco is all paid for. But I hear ya though. I really don’t wanna spend anymore money but I know that’s pretty hard at this point. I haven’t seen any used JLs available. No surprise.
Of note, my taco was limited on parts to buy other than upgrading what I had.

When you speak of “spending more money”... just remember that your Jeep will own your wallet. Soooooooo much aftermarket joy!!!

Before I bought my JL, I really thought about a Taco (in fact, the exact model and configuration you have). It ended up coming down to a few things for me:
1) There is more cabin/seating room in the JL
2) I don't need a bed
3) I do intend to go offroading, and the shorter overhangs make for better approach and departure angles

Of course you've come to a Jeep forum asking if you should buy a Jeep, but I certainly have no regrets.

After driving V6's for a couple decades, I really missed the DODGE HEMI and V8 power, so I traded my '08 JKUR in on the 2016 RAM HEMI/w 8spd auto and it is a real dream to drive on the freeway for great mileage/power/control--then

I saw the advertisements for the new JL--I wanted my jeep back, so I ordered the "18 JLR", NOW I've got both sides of the spectrum--

Oh man lucky you! If I was fortunate enough to have both, I’d do just that.

If you’re paying cash for your vehicles you’re what’s commonly referred to as “financially independent”.

That means you have the freedom to make car buying decisions without having to give a crap what anyone else thinks or says. :)

Edit: except for your wife.

Heh Heh yeah, pretty much so, except my wife and i Have separate accounts so I'm pretty independent, except-

I've still gotta/gonna do what she wants, I've gotta make sure she is comfortable in my vehicles and at least she loves the RAM--gonna take some time for her to GROW into the JLR-

Our Nevada home is in LYON county, no emission restrictions/no SMOG requirements and OPEN CARRY/NO QUESTIONS-

Sold my '17 Tacoma TRD for the JL Rubicon. Been a Tacoma guy for 15yrs & don't regret the decision. What kind of 'loaded' truck doesn't have leather these days & easy way to add a remote start!? LOL

Now I just need to figure out how to haul stuff on the JL that I used to just trow in the back of the truck...

I really REALLY wanted to like the new tacoma, but just wasn't for me. The outside styling is great, but the seats weren't very comfortable to me.

As someone mentioned, the great news is that Toyota's hold their value very well. I bought a 2015 Tundra (I know, a little different) for 32.5k and sold it 18 months later for 32k. ;)

Well you are on a Jeep board asking if it’s better then a Tacoma, so you will get biased answers lol. Go on the Toyota board and ask the same question, you will see completely different responses. However, lol....I once wanted a Tacoma TRD priced at 44-45k (dealers even wanted over sticker at the time) and Toyota does not discount them at all really. I ended up getting a loaded JLUR msrp $52k for about $47k and couldn’t be happier. The amount of extras and overall quality is outrageous. You post for hours how the JL is superior to any tacoma, even their TRD pro. That’s all lol. Good luck

And the downside...you are on a Jeep board and will hear every little problem out there on the JL's. You won't hear so much from people who have had no issues. Mine is an early production JL and one of the first batch of manual transmissions. No issues.

I've got over a quarter of a million miles in three Wranglers and none have ever stranded us or broken down. I can't say that for the Toyotas. I had a 4 Runner strand my wife in the middle of an intersection when the transmission computer freaked out and locked it up. Not fun. The two 4 Runners we had, overall, were great, though. I just don't feel they were any better than the Jeeps, and I've been MUCH harder on the Jeeps than we ever were with the Toyotas. Toyota has earned their rep all over the world, though, so I'm not really dogging them. I'm just saying they aren't flawless and Jeeps aren't junk.

Thanks for all the input y’all.

So far I’ve got a private offer for my Tacoma for $37,000.
(I paid $38,800 after taxes and fees)

Or dealer trade for $35,000 w tax credit. (Tax is close to 10% here)

I’ve spoken to a few local dealers and im down to figuring out the right price.

Dealer 1 is offering $32,200 before tax for a JLU sport S with the Tech package. Fantastic price, however, I have to finance with them. (Not really wanting to finance)

Dealer 2 is offering the same JLU for $36,000.

Sounds like a no brainer but I can’t seem to understand why dealer 1 needs me to finance? Any ideas?

Yes, Dealers make money off the finance. They give you one rate, but take a bit off the top for themselves.

So that old story of being a cash buyer is better is false these days. If you have to finance to get the deal, do so, and (make sure there are no penalties for paying off early) then just pay it off the next day.
