Hello folks-

I am preapring for a long trip southward in this Continent and am thinking about installing a kill switch: a simple on-off switch wired to the fuel pump. Nothing fancy or electronic so that if anything goes wrong with teh switch I can simply remove it and get things back to normal without too much hassle.

So the question is where you all think is the best place I should place the switch?

Any information/insight will be appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

PS: I am NOT interested in doing anything that involves a Tazer

Photo of Rhonda in Alaska for attention! 😃

You could just run a chain through your front wheels and bumper with a good padlock.

This isn't how I set up mine, but I have been thinking that one good option would be to piggyback one of the switches above the sun visors that Ursa provides. That could fire a relay that would enable the fuel pump. The switch would be a hidden-in-plain-sight sorta deal.
Otherwise, a little creativity can go a long way for a totally hidden yet simple switch.

Yeah, no. Physical locks are obsolete by battery powered angle grinders

Hey Tim. To riff on your idea, this little guy could trigger the relay if you simply touch the metal switch panel: https://www.elecbee.com/en-26301-KY...oducts-that-work-with-official-Arduino-boards

Personaly, I wouldn’t want a solution that can be triggered by accident.

Since am traveling to remote places in foreign country(ies) I really want something not electronic... simplest way possible which I think is the fuel pump power cut off switch... At least so far as I have gathered.

Makes sense. I’m going to eventually get around to installing one of these. My plan is to have it automatically disabled by the presence of my phone in the car. I’ll also have a manual override hidden somewhere pretty difficult to get to.

If you have a manual transmission, the clutch interlock switch provides a great start disable option. This is what I used and only requires a simple momentary switch and some wire.
I'm currently in Mexico for 6 months before continuing towards Argentina over the next few years. Safe travels and maybe I'll run into you along the way.

Get one of these and keep the OEM relay somewhere handy in case you lose the remote or it quits working for some reason.

I once used the old floor mounted high-beam switch on my '69 Cadillac as a kill switch. Worked great. Noone knew. As low-tech as it came

And my buddy used a neodynium magnet ring to activate the door poppers on the shaved handles of his Vette. Could easily put a switch behind a blank dash panel.

I always thought idea was not to stop them from getting in, but to make them miserable trying to start it. But nowadays, they just scoop it up with a hauler.

Get Mexican insurance.
