Well this post was brought from the dead...

I ended up selling my brand new never used RV trailer never used last year at a nice loss. Unfortunately, prices for the same RV, brand new, were $5000 cheaper last year. I guess I caught the tail end of the Covid camping bump. I also sold our speed boat. I then took the money and put it toward a pontoon that the marina puts in the water and takes out of the lake that I used stress free many times last summer.

Owning an RV was just more hassle than I expected, and as I researched a camping trip out to Yellowstone, staying at a nice campgrounds and along the way is not like the old days where you just show up and grab a great spot. Reservations are needed and in some cases like Yellowstone months in advance. I just don't have time and energy to deal with that and then stay in a tiny RV. I just want to just chill in more luxury on vacations.

We decided to fly out rent a car and stay at a near by VBRO when we go to Yellowstone.

BTW - I did by the Bluetooth brake controller that I never took out of the package and should have sold to the guy who bought the RV. I forgot I had it.

Your story is like many others that buy new trailers/RVs. Buy high, sell low. It's kept me away from that market. But the advent of VRBO and AirBnB and proliferation of motels and hotels has made most of my travels great. I didn't discover personal home rentals until a few years ago. I've been very happy with those that I've rented.

I paid $24k for my RV spring 2023 I had to search high and low to get this model at that price new and bought it from a dealer 500 miles away. Anything used was not in great shape and not much cheaper.

In 2024 when I decided I made a big mistake and decided to sell I figured I could sell my unused RV at $20k at a slight loss. When I searched for my RV brand new 2024 models were being sold for $19k and there were lots of them for sale at dealers.

It took a few months but I finally sold it at $17k which I was lucky to get because I was getting only $14 -$15k offers on it. So in the end a $7k mistake.

So, I equate RV or trailers to all the fun and expense of owning a car, a high tech entertainment center, and a house on wheels, in one unit. Expect trouble.

Friend and I drove ALCAN last year, me RV class C, him GMC 2500 with 24ft trailer with ebrakes. My rv, trouble free regarding wheels brakes. Him, put bald spots on three of four tires, blew two tires beyond the 4 bald tires. I consider him an expert at setting up a brake controller, yet, there ya go.

What about this?

You are correct, RVs are a flimsy mini home on wheels. What could go wrong.
