Yeah, I saw that. Cool that it worked. In Colorado I have only towed a teardrop, fully loaded was about 3200lbs. Was not pleasant over mountain passes. Fine over flat areas, but definitely felt it behind me. It pulled it over some 11k elevation passes, but was not a positive experience.
11k feet would definitely suck as your 3.6L would be down 33% of its horsepower. For me I don't think I was ever over 5k feet so that helps a lot. Rams with the 3.6L were still rated at 8k pounds I believe. At that much altitude I'd want a tow rig with forced induction.

Hi Guys,

I have a 2018 JLU 3.6 Wrangler. I am looking for a trailer that can tow comfortably no more than 300 miles round trip... as that's about how for I go on average with my current Weekend Warrior Toy hauler with a GMC Denali. I am having a huge conflict of interest here... so I am selling my Polaris RZR since I seem to use my Jeep way more than the RZR. I am considering selling the Warrior and just getting something light enough for the Jeep to tow. Right now, we are having to drive separately to our destinations, he tows the Toy Hauler, and I follow behind in the Jeep because the Jeep doesn't fit in the Toy Hauler. So this is getting pretty annoying. I am so used to the openness of my current trailer, and hoping I can pull off something that feels spacious enough, but light enough for the Jeep to handle it. Now mind you, I have been towing most of my life... so I already know the upgrades needed of Brake Controller, Air Bags weight distribution bars and sway control... I am currently looking at the Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro. Anyone ever towed this before? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Late response on more advice. My T.V. for my 16ft Scamp Deluxe was my 05LJ Wrangler. It was under the maximum weight and pulled easily stopping not a problem I have trailer brake controller, the factory trailer wiring is 7 pin even. The 13ft would have been better but I downsized sold house and rest. Went full-time in it so wanted some room to move around in. I've towed it many miles. In point from N. AL. to Ocala Florida and other places. Way more than 300 miles, but the thing of concern is driving in winds over 20 mph and being passed by large vehicles. The mega SUV's flying past at 90 mph was worse than 18 wheelers. Another reason on fiberglass was not a complete flat wall being pulled down the road that is a limitation for Jeeps. Another reason why my newest Jeep is the Gladiator with the Max-Tow package.

I'll add a few details on my Wrangler Unlimited, it's a manual transmission and heavy with Tuffy security drawer, Rockhard Rock rails, HD bumpers, added roll bars parts from Rockhard, so maybe extra 1000 lbs over factory weight. I installed a 3in lift kit to get it back to factory basically.

Thanks I really do appreciate your input. I think I have pretty much narrowed it down to just pulling the trigger on a used Class C and tow the Jeep on a flatbed trailer. I do a lot of off the grid camping, so I won't really need to worry about where to put the trailer at an RV park. :)

Watch the tow rating on a class c. Heavy Jeep on a heavy trailer will easily be 7k-8k pounds.

I think everyone should check their own insurance and talk to their insurance company and see what they say about it. I know some insurance companies will balk at negligence and they have deeper pockets than I do.
You literally have to be negligent for insurance to pay a liability claim.

Like the claims that insurance won't cover you off road, they can say whatever they want, but what's actually in wiring in your policy? Then there's also how you ask the question. "Am I covered if I intentionally tow a trailer that's double what my vehicles rated at"? Of course they'll say no, but what's in writing? "If my trailer accidently gets over loaded by a bit, am I covered"? Of course you are. "If I'm on forest service road n69 and I have an accident am I covered"? Of course you are. "If I'm driving off road and have an accident am I covered"? They may say no, but what's actually written in your policy? If you are driving too fast and miss your off ramp, all of the damage occurred after you were well off the road and into the trees but obviously your covered. Why would anyone think it was different out on the trails?
There are auto policies that exclude coverage if you are a certain distance from a road or participating in certain activities, so as you said, everyone should read their policy.

Your insurance policy contains a written exclusion for punitive damages, which are available in cases of gross negligence or recklessness. Intentionally towing in excess of the rated weight would qualify as recklessness, and if an accident causes $500k in damages, a typical punitive damages multiplier might be 2x or 3x, none of which your insurance would pay.
Very doubtful it be considered gross or reckless in and of itself. There generally needs to be quite a few more factors to get to gross or reckless. Punitive damages are extremely rare in auto claims.

Sanctioned competition/racing is a very common exclusion. As far as distance from a road, I'd have to see it to believe it. Not to mention unless you're an asshole cutting your own trails, you are probably on an unpaved road when "off roading"

Just checked the company that I knew of and it has been removed, but there are quite a few with the following, which you can read into it what you like.

bodily injury or property damage arising out of the practice, preparation or participation in any prearranged, organized or spontaneous:

a. racing contest;
b. speed contest;
c. demolition contest;
d. high performance driving;
e. stunting activities; or
f. similar activities,
including such use while at a facility or course designed for such purposes listed above.

😳 Well darn good thing I won't be doing anything such as these examples... 😬

I think it would be a hell of a stretch if I rolled my Jeep on the rubicon trail, which is an el Dorado county road, that I was doing any of that though?

On the JLWrangler Forum the only safe towing ever recommended is something the size and weight of a Red Ryder wagon with a bag of groceries in it. Anything else is liability, loss of control, wrecks, damage, children being thrown in the air, dogs and cats living together and death.
