The only non OEM filter that I would put in my Jeep would be the non-critical cabin air filter.
And anything related to that transmission, hell no, no aftermarket 🫣. I'm sticking to OEM

Toyota filters are notorious for not doing great filteration yet Toyota engines outlive their bodies. Because Toyota believes particles beyond a certain point are not harmful to the engine so why try to filter every molecule at the cost of flow. I believe Mopar has the same idea. Plus, during cold start and high load oil is bypassed, no filteration is done so why buy fancy oil filters. So my plan is to keep my oil as clean as possible, change it every 2000 miles, and change the oil filter and air filter as well. Now I will order a whole bunch from Rock Auto.
I already told you that for the same high efficiency (better actually) as other premium brands, the Fram Endurance has the least pressure drop across the media. That means it’s the least restrictive AND the most efficient at filtering compared to stock filters and captures smaller microns than other premium filters that are currently available. You can have both efficiency and flow. Less restriction would be less parasitic power loss running the vane style oil pump too fwiw, with my engine building brain working. lol The filter efficiency is from the increased surface area of the media and it more than offsets that restrictive nature.

Oil analysis really can’t measure particles larger than 5 microns or 1 ten thousandth of an an inch. As far as a significant factor, those microns can be trapped amongst other oil deposits. More floating in the oil…more to get trapped if things don’t stay as clean as they are supposed to.

The Fram Endurance media filters 99% at 20 microns. Looking at the next closest filters, I’d say they’d be doing well to filter down to 10 microns at a 50% rate. They may have exact numbers in that link above.

35 years of driving. ive used a factory filter once or twice. We have always used wix racing filters and Mobile 1 oil or Valvoline racing oil in the high performance boats. ill keep that going as i havent had any issues in the past. Including my 76 pickup. still running like a champ

Don't know if you've seen this, Fram Endurance are rebranded Amsoil EAO filters and filter very well. Higher filter ratings usually mean more restrictive which can be seen in the videos below.

Here's Fram's lineup tests (jump to 9:28 for results):

Here's a bunch of filters being tested including Endurance vs EAO (jump to 10:11 for results):

My decision was made in part watching the earlier video. Very informative. Yes, more restriction is shown there. The low micron filtration would be the likely reason. My memory was apparently off if the micron filtration is glanced over. Overall too. I did read several sources and don’t recall that being an issue. Nor more restrictive than standard cellulose.

My next question, without watching the videos again in the entirety, is did the bypass valve open and what psi. With my 5k change interval, I’m not convinced the filter would clog anywhere near soon enough for that to happen. Also, if I didn’t have a 3.6, I might not be as concerned about micron efficiency and clean oil. Either way, with information to base it on, there should be a balanced decision.

25 microns is almost exactly .001” Look at the oil clearances i attached. Now halve that for clearance at the top and bottom of a journal. 15 and 20 micron filtration starts looking a little more important. Just do an oil/filter change every 5k and all should be good for maximizing life. Rings too to some extent if the particles in your oil are large enough to stick out from the cylinder crosshatch.

Just did my oil change today. Grabbed a fram ultra synthetic filter and some pennzoil platinum 5w-30. Shit didn’t blow up yet so I guess what I got is okay.

Any further feedback on the K&N brand filter specifically for the 3.6? How does that stack against the MOPAR? Also, Amazon lists two different K&N filters.

K&N Select
K&N Premium

Amazon K&N Filters

Is one reusable? The material listed is stainless steel. How would one wash off an oil filter?

I use Mopar oil filters, reason why, no other than quick enough to get correct one around 10.°° or less. About same price as others. In the past I've used FRAM, Wix, and others. Years ago there were three plants manufacturing oil, fuel filters in USA. Some of my family worked at one of the plants. Champion Labs.
Then a main difference in oil filter was what day it was. X number would be painted one color and on to next. My aunt actually gave me about a half dozen oil filters that fit my 91 MJ different brands but off same line the same day. None of the brand names were painted on but base color all were Fram PH-8 threads the specific filter was a PH-16 same threads but 1/2 size. This was after I asked what filters they manufactured. Some did have certain specs on filter media and drain back valve material but most were of general standard to all. I used Walmart brand too. When I was stationed in Germany I had two choices drive to Jeep dealership and pay way to much or snag up a few Fram filters when they had them at post exchange, if you seen 4 of them you better get them it might be 6 more months before anymore were available then. A better thing to concern about is quality oil and changing at reasonable use period. I think. I spend about $75.00 every oil and filter change most of the cost is oil analysis done. Typically I average about 7k on the oil. Is that the correct, it works for me. In the past I was servicing 4 Jeeps so 4-5 gallon of oil gear oil, ATF, ect. You start buying in bulk then. Dang I probably need to get a few more filters now.

I used the FRAM TG11665 for the previous change, however I bought this beauty from Rock Auto for the next change.

I also bought the Wix WL10010XP Made in Korea and a Chinese made FVP.
I'll probably never use the FVP. I may just cut it up to compare it to a MOPAR filter.
Is there a thread where someone dissects various filters and posts pictures of them? If so, please point me to it.
