Had my 3 week old 2018 Wrangler Sahara JLU back to the dealer for the second time yesterday to fix the wandering issue. The dealer agrees that I have a problem but says everything is in spec. And the factories response to the problem is we’ve got what we’ve got. I’ve read other threads where different fix’s have been tried to some degree of success but it appears Jeep isn’t willing to accept any responsibility. Besides not being fun to drive, this condition is also dangerous. Take your eye off the road for a second and wander into the oncoming lane.....someone’s going to get hurt.

Hmm. That sucks. They've traditionally been pretty responsive on wranglerforum.com. Sometimes it can take a day or two though.

@JeepCares is definitely responding to concerns. We have our JLUR in the shop right now for other reported steering issues and they're working with the dealership to try to get them addressed. We have the issue where the steering "sticks" while turning at highway speed and an issue where the steering wheel needs to be turned slightly left to go straight. So far, @JeepCares has been responsive to me, but we're still waiting to see if anything gets resolved.

@JeepCares just responded to my steering concern this a.m, I had already made an appointment in early August and I believe they are going to open a case for my steering as I have drift as well and just like @bwilliam79 I have to hold my wheel to the left to go in a straight line, very annoying and to me a safety hazzard as the steering being off plus the drift can cause a serious accident so I am having it on record so if anything bad happens I will have a record of service

2018 JL 2dr Rubicon. Built date May 3. 1000 miles. Have the same steering issues. Wanders and needs constant corrections. Jeep Care issued a case number and has been 100% involved. Service manager drove last week and agreed there was too much play. Made appointment for today and they checked front alignment, all ball joints and tire pressure. All ok and alignment within spec's. Checked all welds and good to go. ( I already checked the welds and no issues or rust.) They installed new software up date and rebooted the system. Jeep Engineer was on phone with Service Manager throughout.
I will drive for a week and see if that fixed the problem. I do believe that Jeep is trying to narrow this down by a process of elimination. My gut tells me that it is in the steering box but we will see. One thing I can say that they are very involved in my case and been in constant contact with me. Note one of the mech did mention that he drove a new one on the lot that just arrived (2 door) and it was doing the same thing.

1. Install dash cams all over
2. Get into major accident
3. Contact local news, give them footage and interview
4. Jeep has a new shitstorm to deal with and will be forced to recall all JL's with steering issue.

Take one for the team! :flag:

Hmm...this is interesting. When I first picked mine up the steering felt a bit loose for me as well. I had to constantly correct it; moving my steering wheel.

However, I've had it since last Friday and it seems to have gotten better. Either that, or I'm totally accustomed to it. I took it for a road trip the day I got it and I noticed that i didn't have to correct it much at higher speeds (60+). However, when around the 30s I was constantly adjusting. I wasn't used to this at all, but my dad has a 1 ton dually 4x4 cummins truck and the steering on it is a bit loose and he's had it since 2005. He attributes it to the 4x4 maneuverability...but I'm trying to see if my steering is "normal" for the Jeep or if it's a real problem.

Like how much drifting are we talking about in this thread? It's hard for me to assess.

I have a JL Sahara and have only had it for about a week. I was concerned about all the steering and alignment reports. So far so good for me. I wonder if the issue is more prevalent in the Rubicon vs Sahara or Sport.

Is there any "play" with your steering? Do you notice that you have to keep a firm hand on the wheel to keep it straight?

I would say maybe a little play at the bottom of the steering wheel but if I take my hand off the steering wheel it drives straight even at freeway speeds. So at least my alignment is straight.

Hmm...yeee mine doesn't go straight like that unless i'm driving 60+. I'll have to try it tomorrow when Im out and purposely remove my hand from the wheel at different speeds. I just wish there was something CONCRETE about the steering...what is normal and what is not, coming from FCA. Inquiring minds wanna know! :movember:

I have a Rubi and mine is fine (early June build). It is tough to figure out what percentage of Wranglers are afflicted with this. I also do not think it is a binary thing so some may have an issue but it is tolerable but some people's Jeeps are not driveable.
