Another road trip driving through Kansas, and this time the Kansas wind broke my BestTop Sunrider top (twill version). :(

As me and my family were driving along at ~70mph on the highway, with big wind gusts, we heard a loud "ping" noise and then my top started to flap around. Exposing the outside. The cable that keeps the top tensioned into the rain channels had snapped. Luckily I had some gorilla tape to secure it for the remaining ~500 miles home. So now I've put my freedom panels back in, and I'm waiting to see if its covered under warranty.

Last time/trip the Kansas wind pushed my OEM fender liner into my tires, and the tires ate my fender liner (1 year ago) -

I've put in a warranty claim through Quadratec, but I haven't heard back from them. So we shall see if its covered under warranty or not.

If its not covered under warranty, I'm probably not going to buy another one. Even though I liked the top. Especially since the Twill version is $1k now.

I've done a bunch of trips through Kansas and have come to one inescapable conclusion.

The best solution on many levels is to not drive through Kansas.

Did you buy it from Quadratech or did it come with your jeep?

It might be worth reaching out directly to Bestop

EDIT: Looks like they don't warrenty hardware components? Strange.

You might be able to buy a replacement cable to the one that broke, idk. I would try everything to get mine fixed if it broke, it's my favorite mod!

I appreciate the additional info. Probably why I haven't head back...

If thats truly the case, and they won't warranty the hardware under normal use, then DO NOT DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY with this top. Fair weather grocery trips only.

I'm going to reach out to BestTop, and I'll update this thread once I hear back. However, based on what I just read in their warranty info, I'm probably SOL.

I live in Kansas….no trouble from my soft-top fortunately. Good thing Kansas is the only state in the union that experiences wind! Another subject; the only time I experienced damage to my JL from wind occurred in Colorado when a rogue wind gust lifted my hood off the prop and slammed it against the windshield frame. I now have redline hood struts!

The Flint Hills Trail in eastern Kansas is incredibly scenic and popular among local off-roaders.

I live in a super windy area & am on my 3rd premium soft top since 2018. I drive with it down frequently but have found it wears faster driving with it pulled back (sunroof style) as opposed to fully down with the windows removed.

Wind breaking your soft top? Man, I'm just wondering what it's like to drive the Jeep in the Kansas crosswinds!
