2024 Dash Retrofit? 12.3in Dash on <2023... Anyone?

I noticed that eBay has a lot of 2024 12.3-inch Radio Displays (68607669AA) for the 2024 Wrangler priced around $900.

Considering the changes from the '23 to the '24 dash, I would expect many changes need to be made to the under dash that would make it relatively cost prohibitive for the average person. A stereo shop (or body shop) that's familiar with removing the dash in a Jeep would be the most efficient way to swap it out, but still an unknown at this time.

Wait, is the trim integral to the screen? I was thinking about painting some of the interior white and black. That might put me off.

That's assuming it'll even fire up. Supposedly the new radio isn't fully compatible with the '23 and older Wrangler CANBUS. Some folks have tried the RAM version of the 8.4 UConnect 5 and it's a bust. I don't know why this would be any different.

Unless I am mistaken, you cannot just swap this out. The middle A/C and Heater vents are designed different in a 2024. They are flat and under the Radio screen. You would need to modify that part of the dash too, and possibly other parts of the dash...

As others have said, there's the physical part (which might be solvable), then there's the electrical / CAN bus part, which as far as we know is not compatible and has no known way to make it work.

Cannot remember where I replied before to this thread -- but to swap a 2024 dash into a 2023 or earlier JL will require either the entire dash (see JL manufacturing video), or a very laborious rebuilding of individual parts.

The skeleton of the dash is the same P/N. Some components (heater controls, aux switches, etc) can be reused as well. However, the front bezel, rear supporting bezel, most of the electronics, as well as the wiring harness and plugs are different. It is NOT a simple replacement of the screen.

That brings us to the plugs. IF the wiring harness is the same between models, then yes. Conceivably you could swap the dash boards. Heck, it might actually be relatively simple, as removing the entire dash appears to only be a few bolts. (and coolant lines, A/C, steering linkage, etc)

But getting an entire dash is going to require a parts Jeep or a friend that works at LKQ or a nice junk yard that actually gets their hands on wrecked Jeeps. Not gonna find this at pick-n-pull, even 20 years from now.

Mopar and upgrades, tread lightly. I tried to upgrade the radio unit in my Ram to a newer model. Computer did not recognize the new hardware, nor could it be flashed to accept it. Sucked, but Mopar is Mopar.

I didn't buy it. A friend brought it over to give it a try. He upgraded to another aftermarket and his was sitting around.
