Dash Cam... Glad I had one

Glad you were able to walk away from that crash. I’ve been thinking about getting a dash cam. Any recommendations - from anyone - on a good cam that doesn’t break the bank?

I am currently running this dashcam that clips around the stock rearview mirror, I like it.. it works well...

However, I am a bit concerned that because I run with no doors and roof, then some lowlife is going to steal it... sooo...
I just bought this one that is a 360 degree recording system.. it does not record sound... but my plan is to mount another camera internally to record whatever is happening around the driver, that will capture the audio.. I have yet to decide which internal camera to install... I will report back once I install it...

I wanted a dashcam ever since I got rear ended on the 4th day of ownership. Turned out there wasn't any damage to my Jeep, so I waited and waited. Finally pulled the trigger on one of these

Overall, I'm happy with it. 1080p is good enough to show a cop the other driver was the moron. You can record sound or not, and it automatically downloads your last drive to the app once you turn off the ignition.

I run a Garmin 55 dash cam; I think it has been replaced with the 57 now.

I love the voice commands and the time, date, mph, and gps coordinate stamps leave no question as to the location.

I have had one for years mainly because I do not trust other drivers. Had a close call happen, good thing I always watch vehicles pulling out it onto a road. Great little dash cam, detects vehicle movement in front, pedestrian crossing and more. Works quite well.

Love my dashcam, caught an impaired driver driving on the wrong side of the road, he swerved out of the way barely avoiding at least 12-15 cars & trucks before I could get him to stop... I had dispatch on the line the entire time, he kept making random turns, speeding up/slowing down... Turned out to be an older gentleman that took to much medication and had the same impaired responses as a drunk driver. I used that video to teach classes on road safety and things to watch out for.

A Garmin has served me well for many years. Recently, the mount broke so I moved it permanently to the motorhome and purchased one of these from Amazon. I like the dual cameras.

This was the dah cam I was using. It was probably 3-4 years old. I don't think they make it anymore.

Two sets on in front one in rear and then the two aux cams ones on each side so almost 360 degree view.

Yes, the dash came provided some nice info here. But it did not save the day. There were multiple witnesses including another victim. So this would still have been a slam dunk as far as insurance and the police are concerned.

Where this may REALLY pay off is if you sue the guy for injuries. There is no way his insurance company is going to want a jury to see that video. It's worth thousands.

Years ago I was in an accident being the middle car in a three car collision. The driver behind me, who didn't have insurance nor a license, rear ended me and pushed me into the car in front.

It all ended OK, my car was totalled but I was found not-at-fault. However in the end fault was assigned in an interview with the car in front of me because the person behind claimed I had already hit them when they hit me. Insurance guy was nice and straight forward and told me it'll all boil down to if the guy in front recalled one or two collisions, 1 collision and I was pushed into them after the person behind hit me; 2 meant I hit the car in front of me then the car behind me hit me into them.

After that episode I'm a big fan of dash cams. Follow the rules of the road, drive defensively, and a dash cam can only help your derrière if you're in an accident.
