Looking to add a dash cam in the Jeep. Has anyone found a dash cam that also functions as a good trail cam. Wishfully with image stabilization. (To capture quality vids while on trails)

early research has popped up:

Garmin mini 2 dash cam
Viofo A119 V3
70Mai dash cam pro+

Nearly got in a crash this morning due to a bozo slamming on brakes in the middle of the interstate. Luckily I was able to swerve around them without hitting or creating hazard for anybody else.

This made me realize I need a dash cam so I've been researching all day. I ordered the Vantrue N3 off amazon. Once it comes in I'll update with how good/bad it is.

My guess is none are going to do great with image stabilization, but we'll see.

There are a few that mount over your rearview mirror and have an external rear-facing camera. They record in both directions and resolve the issue of not being able to see through a spare tire.

Sort of, kinda retired....mostly
I have the Garmin Dash Cam Tandem. It has front and rear facing lenses, and does a good job recording. However, if you are looking for a true trail camera, this is not it. While you can watch videos live from it via your phone, it's a bit clunky. It's not designed for that. Also, pretty much any dash camera will not be very effective as a true trail camera; i.e. one that allows you to see what is directly in front of your bumper, since they are mounted too high. I used a GoPro mounted on the stinger with an extension mount before I upgraded to a JL with the factory trail cam. The GoPro did OK, but doesn't allow for simultaneous live viewing and recording. You have to choose one or the other. I now use the OEM trail cam for watching what's in front of me, the GoPro to record it, and the dash cam to get a higher level view and help in accidents.

I put this one in all of my vehicles it has a good picture and it downloads to my iPhone for reviewing your drive. Which you can show to police in case of a accident. It’s capable to record when parked. It’s a nice price too.
