I am thinking of getting a dash cam myself. What do you guys think about the two below options? Pros, cons, ease of install etc. Thanks.

Also, does it highly matter 1080P video vs 4K etc.?
we use the momento M7 for our fleet trucks, and while a bit pricey they are awesome. Great clarity at night and front and rear cameras. They have a nifty software interface that overlays the speed on a map, front an rear video and also shows the G shock.

One thing I don't see mentioned in this thread is the Jeep small overlap crash performance. Even in the infamous "role over" IIHS tests, due to the tapered design of the body/hood with external wheel wells, the energy gets deflected instead of absorbed in this Jeep. The other vehicle had to absorb quite a bit of energy whereas the Jeep "slid" by and deflected the energy.

I decided to get a dashcam a couple years ago after 2 close encounters where people ran the red light and we almost collided. In one of them it was a little Fiat 500 that ran the red light and I almost t-boned him. Needless to say, Fiat 500 vs. JL is not a good ending.

Couple weeks ago i almost got into another accident when a golf cart was pulling out of a parking lot (taking a left) and did not see me coming. That would have been a very unfortunate incident and glad i had the dashcam in case i ever needed to prove i did not do anything wrong.

This is my overarching concern every time I back out of the garage: that I'll come to harm due to another driver's wholly avoidable negligence, particularly in the form of inattentiveness. On that point, I couldn't install a dash cam fast enough after the JLU came home from the dealer.

I do have an archived screen shot that I sometime share to illustrate the value of such cameras:

The oncoming traffic had a stale red, and I had a protected left turn arrow. My Spidey sense, finely tuned after many years on two wheels, told me to sit still since the POS drayage day cab driver wasn't going to slow down, despite having time and space to do so. He didn't.

My right of way wouldn't have prevailed over his [illegitimate] right of mass.

Just another day.

I've seen a shocking number of ran red lights in my 19 years of driving... All close to home... Time to move to another dangerous area...

Ok a year ago today, August 18, 2022 in LESS than a second, from when the driver of the other vehicle crossed the double yellow line and hit me head on, totaled out my 2006 TJ Sport. I know there is a lot of discussions on here pro and con. Once the viewed was viewed by the police and insurance, they had zero doubt on who was at fault. Just FYI, I walked away with minor injuries, and before Thanksgiving of last year had my 23 JL Sport Reign!

Glad you are OK, I am adding dash cam as well. Also, point to ponder in my experience, That driver should have gone right...

Never understood the need or want, then again I never had a CB or radar derector.
We all make mistakes. The problem arises when the dash cam records you making a mistake. Then it can be subpoena'd and the video used against you.

I guess the ideal situation is to have a dash cam that is not visible to anyone else. So you use its footage when you choose to.
