Looking to see what the average amount of hrs gear, Driveline Shops are charging for labour to remove replace differential gears on a 2020 Rubicon. This is by someone who knows their stuff. the Jeep has 30k km so near new so no rust or damaged anything anywhere. Just the hours. Nothing else

I don't the exact hours (less than a day) but the cost is typically around $1,000 per axle for parts and labor.

Just looking for the hrs.
It varies greatly. If they drop in and shims are perfect, it‘s WAY less time that if they have to R&R 10 times to get the pattern right…

For my regear, one of the shops quoted 11hrs at about $1200. The other shop did not break out the time, they have a flat fee of $1200 for labor.

Really? $600 per axle? I see numbers thrown around here but I never looked into it myself in my area. I now know what I'll do with my spare time come retirement.
I learned how to do gears on several different axles decades ago. I got out of hot rods when being an adult took over. After reading @chevymitchell 's excellent write-ups on the modern Dana 44, it seems like nothing has changed.
This will be easy money, even if I charge half. Transmissions and differentials were always a labor of love for me since I could help out my broke ass friends in those days. I guess history will be repeating itself in the not too distant future...

My assumption is most shops use a flat fee because some gear jobs are quick and easy and some take all day or have come-back issues. Charging a guy 500 and the next guy 1500 for the “same” job would get really tricky as a business (especially in a small industry where friends talk about what it cost them).

It’s my understanding that a flat rate would make sense. Open pumpkin, remove, replace , align close up. Its a totally isolated sealed system.

No lockers, but I did have an Eaton TrueTrac LSD installed in front and rear (replaced factory LSD) for no additional labor.

It’s not that simple
I never said it was simple, I basically said it was straight forward. Take a clean Jeep with 30k km. Never off road. Clean as you will get underneath. Open, remove, replace. Zero surprises, rusted damaged components. No heating or chiseling to get stuff apart. In and out.
