I picked up my 2023 JLUR XR from the lot. It was custom ordered by someone but he changed his mind. I have a good relation with the sales person and he immediately called me if I was interested and I bought it within the next couple of hours. Its a unicorn as it met all my requirements for a custom ordered XR. The window sticker shows that the original intended buyer ordered with Mopar CAI from the factory.
My new Jeep does not have the hood side vent nor did they send the part separately with other accessories. One thing different about my 2023 Jeep is the grill. It is like the Gladiator grill with wider/larger honeycomb openings than the smaller ones the Wrangers come with.

1. Is that grill due to that CAI option or is that standard for 2023?
2. Do I need to have the hood cut out or is that optional? Without the hood cut out, would the cold air intake be less than the standard/stock intake?
2. Since MOPAR CAI came installed from the factory, does it come with the stock/standard air filter or the re-usable one that is sent if ordered separately?

You have the front camera that's why you have that grille. Some no-camera vehicles have it, while some don't. It seems to be hit or miss on these forums.

2. Do I need to have the hood cut out or is that optional? Without the hood cut out, would the cold air intake be less than the standard/stock intake?
Hood cut out is optional. Without the cutout, I'm not sure there is much difference other than the filter.

It should have come with the CAI re-usable filter.

Thanks!

Wow. Off the lot loaded!? Unbelievable really. I would see if you can get the side piece. I was thinking about adding the CAI and the HPM (muffler) myself. Did yours also have the better muffler?

Only the Mopar CAI. Muffler is standard. I will check on the side piece when I visit the dealership next time.

I guess the stock intake filter (non reusable one) is more restrictive (more filtration) than the reusable one? Could there be longevity issues for the engine in the long run with the reusable one?

It depends on what type of reusable filter it really is. Something like a K&N oiled filter has extremely poor filtration. Meanwhile the AFE dry filter is quite good. I haven’t seen any real information on the Mopar option. It’s probably good enough.

Can you reuse the stock air filter box lid rather than using the new one?

I don't believe so, since the outlet diameter is larger on the new lid (3.75 vs 3.0"). However, you can buy the air filter itself separately for use in the stock non-Mopar intake system.

Thanks. Yeah, should have thought about the diameter being bigger. I like this kit and might grab one but was just hoping to retain the stock lid.

If you like the OEM-ish look, check out the Mishimoto kit or aFe Super Stock Induction System. The aFe reuses the stock airbox lid but includes a new intake pipe and much larger filter that fits inside the factory airbox. It doesn't hurt they the aFe is on sale right now for barely over $200 either!

Thank you. I will look into these.
I'm a big fan of aFe products and run them on my sports cars, but actually went with the Mishimoto on my wife's JL. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice though, both companies do real R&D along with proper engineering/testing.

I run their cat can and like the quality. I'm looking for CAI setup that loses all the added chambers the intake tube for a cleaner look. This is really the only reason I am looking into one except maybe a little added sound as a bonus. Any reason to make sure these added chambers are not deleted like the MOPAR ad AfE versions?

Mishimoto actually did a really good write-up on that exact topic. Here's the link to their 3.6L intake R&D in which you'll find another link to even more in-depth details regarding the intake pipe resonators discovered during 2.0T intake R&D.
