I don't like the characterization by some that a lot of Rubi owners don't wheel them, because I certainly do, but in the true spirit of the question posed:
I believe I have seen more Wrangler Sports on the trails in Moab and Colorado than any other trim.
I don't know why that is. Theories, as seen here in this thread, are many. And all just.... theories.
Many people on this site and at the places you go use theirJeeps in a similar way. But the fact is that the vast majority of Jeeps, no matter the package or trim level, rarely leave the pavement, if ever.

The reason you see more Sports is based on price. Most are in the $35-$45k range new, and there are a lot more of them on the lots. Less Rubicons are made and most are ordered with a lot of options, so they cost significantly more. And the options are weird when it comes to Wranglers. Just for fun the other day, I built a 2 door Willys with every available option. It was over $58k. You can get a base 2 door Rubicon right now for about $44k.

I don't think the off-roading is a function of trim. I have a '22 JLR and had a couple of badges and a few other trails under my belt before the new car smell was gone. Would have done the same if I bought a lower trim.

I bought the Rubi because I wanted to have a jump start on the trails. I paid a premium but had the means.

Young people tend to off-road more and they have the lower trims.

Here in Colorado, it’s definitely Rubicons. We can’t go out on the trail without seeing Jeeps and 90% of the JLs we see are Rubicons.

So I was talking with my kids about a sweet Willy’s trim jlu we saw, and I speculated that more Willy’s drivers point it down the trail than us rubicon owners. Does anyone else have thoughts on who gets the most out of their jeeps!?
My humble observation is that the Rubicon trim wheels the most. I’ve been to about 10 Jeep Jamborees and probably 2/3 of the jeeps there have been Rubicon trims. I wheel mostly out west, where lockers are needed for crawling, so my observation may be a little different from those on the East Coast.

In my experience, organized Jamborees are not representative of the off-roading population at large.

Jamborees are comprised disproportionally of newbs who want to dip their toes into off-roading. A small number get hooked, but most never take their rigs to the trails ever again.

Those are the ones waiting on the apocalypse, think they’ll need lockers to get over the zombies……?
It's true. Zombies are low traction.

My anecdotal observation in Colorado is the same, in fact I don't remember the last time I saw a non-Rubicon JL on a trail.

2023 Rubicon 4xe is my daily driver and I take it "off-road" at least four times per week. :jk: You see, there is a twenty-foot strip of gravel due to road construction which the Rubi must traverse so I can get into my parking garage!

So glad I bought a Rubicon for my treacherous commute!!! ?

Don't see JK and definitely no TJ Rubicons used for sale much either.
Must be regional. A quick search on cars.com within 500 miles of my area in southern AZ (I think a 500 mile radius is an acceptable distance to travel to get the vehicle you want, others may disagree) shows about 100 Rubicons for sale. Mostly TJ and JKR, but a decent amount of JLRs, a handful of JKURs and currently one JLUR. Because of where I'm at, that radius includes SoCal. If I drop it to 250, it no longer includes SoCal, and the number drops to about 40 available. Strangely enough, all JKUR/JLURs within the 500 mile radius are within 250 miles as well.

A very quick google for my city of about 1 million with a 500km radius has about the same as well. If I drop it to just the city, there are 8. Lol.
I think they sell quick or people hang onto them. Plus, they're definitely not as popular here in Canada as they are in the US. Then there is the whole population difference.

Interesting results though for sure.

Rubicon owners get more trim. And draculas are scarier than zombies.
