To start off with I'm a new member and I'm posting because though i've seen similar threads, none fully aligned to my issue.

No starter engagement - couldn't get push button start to function, some power (Headlights only). Another Jeeper tried helping - jumping and determined not a battery issue; power not getting through the system. Also checked fuse. AAA had already been called so when the tech arrived, after about 15 minutes and various attempted remedies, he got it started without having to "jump" it.

The FIX: Disconnected battery both terminals, let batter set for a minute, touched the two cables together DISCHARGING energy in cables/system thereby resetting the CPU. Said, "the security system was tripped" and the computer needed to be reset. Issue (and he explained) though I don't have "a security system" all Jeeps roll off the line "capable" but I just opted not to have, as is the case with power windows and door locks. Posting both for awareness and confirmation.

Oh and BTW... pushing harder on the break pedal and key fob tricks didn't work.

The same no-start interlock security every other one has.
The only security system I see is based on power door locks. What triggers the security system on my manual lock vehicles.

The start button. The very act of looking for the codes key fob before starting is the function of the PCM security.

I know that the system checks for a registered fob before starting and that is a level of security. My question is for systems that don't come equipped with the Security Alarm, what would trip the security system and cause a no start condition until the system is reset.

Nothing should, intentionally. Only errors in the system, consisting of several different modules and connections that could be suspect.

Sir:

Most JL models have two batteries.

Those JLs that do have batteries have them connected in parallel at rest.

Touching the disconnected cables from the main battery to each other is the electrical equivalent of putting a conductor between the positive and negative prongs of the Aux battery.

Provided the Aux battery has power, those cables are still very much live despite their being disconnected from the main battery.

Don't "cross the streams."
