Who Rotates 5 Tires?

When I get my new tires I will be doing 5. I bought used and they did only 4

When it’s time for a tire rotation, do you rotate 4 or 5? And Why?

All 5. Extends the life of the tires.
If i only replace 4, what if i dont get the same tires!?

i talked with Michelin once (owners of BF Goodrich) and they suggested that the Spare go to the Right Rear and the tire that would have been the Right Rear become the Spare.

but putting whichever has the least tread depth on as the Spare sounds like a pretty good plan too.

I'm never rotated my own tires before, but it looks like if you just do 4 tires, a "rearward cross" is the standard? So assuming the worst and they refuse to do the spare, I could swap out one on my own afterward. Is there a specific tire that would make sense to do that?

I’ve never rotated any tires I always get past the mileage warranty or get a road hazard replacement.
