Sadly, I've been traveling for work since doing this so I don't know. I took the JL for a quick lap around our hood after doing this and then drove the company Fusion to the airport a few days ago; I'll report back after driving it longer.

great to hear! Any issues with the sub cutting out? I think i ran a bad connection because my sub is currently cutting out at high volume but that seems like a wiring issue at the moment. Will post all my photos when this issue is fixed!

My sub is only playing from the left side. I may have wiring issue. I'll troubleshoot and report back.

I did this as well with the aforementioned harness. The 'drilling' is really just screwing the speakers into the sound bar of the plastic. Jeep did this on the front 4's from the factory anyways. The sound bar section you have to mar is the cheap unexposed part of the soundbar anyhow.
Good point. I guess no one will ever see the drilling. Going to try it this afternoon. It still fits flush after drilling, even though you are laying the speaker over the factory "3 hole" sections?

I just purchased Infinity Reference REF-3022 speakers 3.5" for the front dash and tweeters in the soundbar as well as Infinity Reference REF-4022 4" for the soundbar. I picked these as they have a lower ohm rating than the kicker speakers that most have recommended and should get more output with the base stereo.

I will have to trim/adjust a little for the 4" as they have 4 holes to secure instead of the 3 like the stock speakers. If you haven't seen these 4" speakers out of the Jeep yet you will be shocked. The magnet is tiny and overall feels cheap and weightless.

If you are all interested at all I can post pictures as I go through it.

So i get all installed yesterday. I stared with the 3.5" in the dash and it was a HUGE improvement. Was blown away with the clarity and how much bass was coming out of that little speaker. I used the balance/fade to just set to the front too to hear and again it was great.

However, when i was dont installing the 3.5" in the soundbar as well as the 4" i was under-whelmed with the audio. To be honest, it sounded like garbage. Not sure why that would be the case. I also did the balance/fade and set to just the back and there was little to no bass. Almost sounded like they were getting very little power.

Why would the front sound so good but the back sound like garage? Any insight here?

It almost sounds like your rear speakers may be connected out of phase, meaning the positive and negative wires on one of the speakers may be reversed. Try this... Isolate one rear speaker with your fader and balance. As you are listening, adjust the balance slowly to bring in the other speaker until it's in the center of the rear channel. If it sounds better when each speaker is isolated, and worse when balanced, then it could be the speaker wires. Not guaranteed, but it's a first step. Good luck!

Check out my photos, but the 4 inch speakers in the rear's polarity are reversed https://photos.app.goo.gl/2pibxMK6b4ESPHro7

They stick out about a quarter of an inch but fill the factory hole without any gaps

I could only get the left side to work with a self powered sub. I believe you would need resistors on the left and right channel which you spliced into for the sub. When I had both sides connected, the uconnect would not send sound to the right channel, when i did left only it worked. annoying to say the least but the resistors should be cheap

What resistors do I need? Just leaving the left side hooked up made both channels work?

Thanks

Ceramic 47 Ohm, 5 Watt resistors. One for each pair of inputs. If you have an electronics store like Fry's near you, they keep them in stock. Or, you could purchase them here: https://www.parts-express.com/47-ohm-5w-resistor-wire-wound-5-tolerance--015-47

The "Adding an Aftermarket Amp" thread has a diagram of how to solder it in, if needed. Good luck!

PS: You can test the need for the resistors by simply connecting the stock speaker back to the stock speaker wires and then turning your stereo back on. Once the stock speaker plays, you can disconnect it and carefully reconnect it to your amp, or your line output converter. If it needs a resistor, the sub will work until you turn off the Jeep. When you turn the Jeep back on (without the stock speaker connected on that channel) there likely won't be any sound. Can you tell I had major fits trying to figure this resistor thing out? ;)

I finally fixed my subwoofer cutting out issue and I'm rocking and rolling!! This is all related to the resistance issue so if you do not want to do resistors and have a self powered sub and the rest of the speakers on the stock head unit, then you can only connect the left side for the sub. while, yes, this is not optimal chances are you will not be able to tell the difference as you cannot perceive well where low frequencies are coming from therefore most music bass is distributed across the left and right channels.

The problem I ran into is that my kicker hideaway self powered sub was set to use DC offset for turn on rather than +12v. Only one channel was connected (because of the aforementioned resistance issue) and this was not optimal for the DC offset setting which caused the unit to turn on an off with the music. Once I attached the sub to the trunk cigarette lighter's power it worked flawlessly. I have been listening to music for about an hour now before I put it back together and I cannot tell that one channel is connected.

****** THIS RESISTOR THING. I almost tore apart my Jeep again because I thought I had a bad connection

I have the alpine pwe-s8 and it sounds as if I'm missing something with only one channel coming through. This prompted me to run some tests and where I found the problem (sub only plays from the right rear). I'm going to order the resistors and report back.

Any chance you can snap a quick photo of it installed up there? If the factory ones have the 3 hole, how are the 3 hole from the 4 holed aftermarket speaker sitting flush in the 3? The distance would be off to begin with no?

Basically you will want to use the "template" that comes with your speakers to determine the best location for the speaker. Then, pre-drill another screw hole (or two) so that they sit as flush as possible. You may have to use a glue gun to seal any gaps. There's plenty of room between the speaker and the covers on the soundbar.

My only advice is to position your template/speaker so that your speaker's frame doesn't extend outside of where the Jeep's console speaker cover sits. I had to "adjust" mine after realizing the speaker's frame was sticking out a bit too far. Easy enough to do, by rotating the speaker template a little before choosing your new screw hole locations.

In my case, with 5.25's I used the template, as shown below, then cut the new hole.
